I want to name our baby after my late grandfather. I like the name for both genders but my husbands not sure. Do you think it works as a gender neutral name? I don’t want to find out the sex until I give birth.

Definitely gender neutral. I’ve got friends of both sex who have the name and it works! I actually know more females who are Frances than males

I’ve met male and female Francis/es and it’s a lovely name

It’s nice for both. As above, I’d say ‘is’ for boy and ‘es’ for girl.

yeah, definitely a gender neutral name - just Francis for a boy and Frances for a girl.

My grandad was Francis and I was going to use Frances if I had a girl. But for my boy I used another name

Francis is general the masculine spelling & Frances feminine

It's mine, my brother's, my dad's and my daughter's middle name 😂 definitely gender neutral!

Yes! My friend has a daughter named Francis we call her Frankie! It suits her so well!

You could also use Francesca for a girl, to still name after your grandfather but make it more girly.
I’m really not keen on the name Francesca because i knew someone who was really not a nice person with that name and it’s ruined it for me.
