Hi mommas, my son (19 months old) tested positive for RSV last Tuesday 4/8 and although his energy is better he still has a cough. He didn’t need breathing treatments because his lungs were clear but I want to help this cough go away.
What can I do?!

Unfortunately coughs can linger for a few weeks and there isn’t a whole lot you can do since cough medicine is not recommended for kids so young

😩 oh no. We’ve had an event set for this Saturday but now idk if we should go.

The RSV cough will last for 2-3 weeks unfortunately, it's just the nature of the virus and there isn't anything you can particularly do or give to your child to make the cough go away, it just has to run it's course. Sorry I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but it's such a common (and horrible) virus to get.
The great thing is his lung are good and he isn't needing treatment for the virus, so as long as he is drinking well, eating little and often, having wet nappies, then I wouldn't worry too much about the cough, honestly. Most parents I see at work (a children's hospital) are surprised the cough can last so long but unfortunately it can do.
I think it's probably best to not go, but see how your son is by then, he may be feeling better and improved as its still some time away. Ideally you don't want him socialising with anyone vulnerable, little children or babies, older adults, etc. as it's pretty contagious. But ultimately it's up to you.
Hope he feels better soon 🙂

I just saw this but when my son had RSV they say it peaks on day 4-5 which his day 5 was definitely the worst but I can’t remember when they said they were no longer contagious
