@Nikkita yes they are both on vet plans so get them with that. Only did that about two weeks ago. I’m panicking about what to do with the house. Do I get a flea bomb and do the house??
I remember finding one when my daughter was a few months old I flea bombed the house and went to a family members for a few days also had this issue this morning but I’m at 35 weeks pregnant at my mums so don’t really know what to do this time 🥴 I have a 3 year old husky who I don’t want to be taking them back to
I used to work in a pet shop and got trained on helping to get rid of fleas! The best thing to do if you can is to buy a few flea sprays for the house (Indorex is the best, it's expensive but you get more per SqM of the house!) turn the heating on, leave the hoover on for 10 minutes so the fleas gravitate to the hoover and then hoover the whole house! Once you've hoovered, spray EVERYWHERE, floors, soft furnishings, under and behind sofas/cabinets etc and head out of the house for a few hours to let it settle (it's strong!). Don't hoover for ideally 5-7 days but as long as possible. Once you hoover you bring the flea spray back up so it's not effective 🫣 The bombs aren't great as they don't go underneath everything which is where fleas will hide! Make sure it's a spray which helps to stop the flea life cycle, otherwise it won't kill any eggs they've laid. You may need to do it a couple of times! X
@Katie thank you. can I leave the cats in with indorex?
If the cats have the treatment the fleas shouldn't become a problem in the house. The fleas will jump on the cats and then die, as long as the cats have free roam of the house. I'd be careful with flea bombs as everyone in the household and the animals will have to be out for quite a few hours and a lot of the sprays you can't use around animals or children. You can wash all bedding and hoover everything and empty the hoover immediately after into an outside bin to make sure they aren't laying eggs anywhere. Chances are it was just a one off though, as I said before they can be brought in on your shoes and clothing especially in the warmer weather.
@Scarlett It's quite a strong spray so ideally if you can have them out the house it's better - if they are indoors cats maybe do upstairs first, keep them downstairs with you then do downstairs and keep them upstairs with you. If you are doing the house in sections it's okay to stay indoors, shouldn't harm you, it's just not a nice smell! X
Do you use over the counter flea treatment or one prescribed by the vet?? I have 4 cats and 3 dogs and have found most over the counter treatments to be next to useless. It's also the time of year when they are increasing as the weather is becoming warmer. They can be brought in from the outside on clothing and shoes, but shouldn't become an issue if your cats are on a regular treatment, my cats are on felpriva that is applied every 3 months and included in the pet plan that most vets offer.
