Need some positive words

When I gave birth, my husband and I decided that I would be a stay-at-home mom indefinitely while we figured out the best move for our family. Fast forward to now… After 20 months, I will be going back to work in a few weeks and I've been feeling sad that I won't be seeing my little girl while I go to work the whole day. We’ll be putting her in daycare. I know this is a good change because I'm going to make progress in my career but I've been feeling sad. Any positive words from working moms out there?

Good for you to be brave enough to take on this big transition. My personal biggest lesson in parenthood so far: it seems like you never just feel one emotion at once (in this case sadness to spend less time with your kid and the other excitement to invest in your career. I am realizing this sort of duality is one of the most natural parts of being a parent.

This might not be helpful advice for all by a friend said to me before my return to work “it’s more anxiety inducing leading up to the start than the actual start” and that was so true for me. Once I was at work it all came back fast and I found the balance to be better for me. I know that isn’t true for all.

Last thought (sorry for being verbose) I say let yourself be sad about it, it’s a nice thing you will miss that time and connection. It’s natural and makes sense to be sad.

Congrats to you! That’s definitely a bittersweet moment. Working from home is an option also if you wanted to look into that.
