Cows milk

My 13 month old has had diarrhoea for 2 weeks after changing to cows milk. the doctor says to not give him any food for 24 hours and just give him water and sugary juice if he gets hungry. What juice can I give him? Also what milk would be good to put him on after? The doctor said a toddler milk but would oat be ok? Pic of my boy 🥰

Did your doctor refer you to an allergist?? CMPA is pretty rare and probably would present earlier in life and not just with diarrhea. Normally it's just clear liquids aka apple juice.

That sounds a little odd to me tbh, for CMPA you usually get mucus poos and flecks of blood in poo, not really diarrhoea. Was be breast or formula fed up until this point? The only way I can imagine CMPA suddenly showing up at 13 months is if he’s breastfed and you’re dairy free and he’s never been exposed to dairy while eating solids until now. There’s lots of stomach bugs going around atm could it just be that?

@Molly no he just said to not give him food for 24 hours and put him in toddler milk

@Lauryne he was formula fed, I explained it all to the doctor and he just said to go to toddler milk, one of my friends children was put onto oat milk because he kept being sick with cows. I thought it was a bug at first but 2 nearly 3 weeks of this that started around the same time as he was put on cows milk

I would have thought if it was CMPA you'd have already known because formula is made from cows milk and if you're breast feeding if you consume cows milk then they will also get that through your own milk

@Kirsty toddler milk is just formula for toddlers. Unless you pick one thats made specifically without cows milk it'll be the same.

Did you transition slowly to cows milk from formula? You could just stick with formula for a little longer and try transitioning again super slowly and see what happens? At 13 months it's highly unlikely to be an allergy (although op doesn't actually mention that)more likely it was just too much for his tummy just yet.

@Charlotte yes we done it gradually, thank you for the advice ☺️

We had something similar and our docs told us to give my little boy half portions and feed more regularly to give his body time to digest the milk and it worked xx
