Fexofenadine in Pregnancy

I’m suffering really badly with hayfever to the point I can’t leave the house and it’s affecting my sleep, meant to be going away this weekend but the cough is non stop! Does anyone take fexofenadine and is pregnant?

Yes I take it :) prescribed by the doctor and they have no concerns with it being taken during pregnancy as I asked the midwife (I was taking it pre-pregnancy)

@Shannon oh amazing! I have doctors tomorrow but have it on repeat prescription anyway but even waiting 24 hours for them to say yes is a killer 🤣 thank you x

No for sure definitely ask them about it for you but she didn’t even bat an eyelid at it 😂😂😂 x

@Shannon brill will ask tomorrow! Do you take the normal 180mg? x

I have been prescribed it for years and they had to prescribe a different antihistamine and a less effective one as it's not suitable to have in pregnancy x

@Eden what one were you prescribed instead? It’s confusing because the BUMPS website haven’t said to avoid just said that there isn’t any studies tested on pregnant women of course!

It's just over the counter medication but they've prescribed it instead. They did the same for my last pregnancy too. Refused to give me fexofenadine! But this week I've really debated taking my fexofenadine as the loratadine does fuck all!😅

@Eden ah I’ve already tried Loratadine and Certirizine as the NHS website said they were okay but they’ve not touched it and I can’t cope with the hayfever cough anymore 😭😩 x

I have prescribed fexofenadine but haven’t taken yet during pregnancy (suffering at the moment!) spoke to a consultant recently and they recommend piriton during pregnancy over other antihistamines. Definitely speak to your doctor though, it is confusing though as BUMPS says it’s ok

@Jillie I might give chlorphenamine a go - I’ve been diagnosed with hayfever induced asthma now so have some inhalers but really their only advice was loratadine or certirizine but the chlorphenamine might let me get some sleep at night!

Definitely at night as they are drowsy. I haven’t tried myself yet but I can feel my hayfever getting really bad. I use a saline nose spray at the minute which helps a bit. Might be worth speaking an a pharmacist as they will provably be able to advise without seeing a doctor

@Jillie saw the doctor today acc and other than what’s been discussed here very little advice! Pharmacist have said they can’t even sell me the loratadine and certirizine as it says not recommended for pregnancy on the pack 🤣

Ohhh really I’m sorry that’s frustrating. Ohh really I didn’t know they they wouldn’t even sell that. In case it helps, my midwife had referred me to a consultant at the hospital to talk about my allergic rhinitis and seasonal asthma and what I could take, maybe you could ask her if you could be referred to see what else you can take?
