@Amber I was on sertraline, which is an SSRI but it was the highest dose you can be on. Maybe I’ll ask about taking it again at a lower dose.
I was on Klonopin and I weaned myself off just recently. I’m 23 weeks. My psychiatrist suggested I use another medication that doesn’t put baby at risk instead if I needed to which I’ve found helpful. Maybe ask your psychiatrist what they recommend. There’s also a good website you can look up the medications and their recommendations for pregnancy https://womensmentalhealth.org
Definitely! Also though if it makes you feel better, I was told that babies are most affected by medication in the first trimester, but it’s also pretty rare with SSRIs. I was on the highest dose of Celexa with my son and he had some withdrawals (I didn’t know that could happen) after being born but nothing crazy and his health wasn’t impacted. This time I’m on a lower dose to avoid the withdrawals and my doctor said it shouldn’t impact baby at all. I wish you the best of luck! It’s hard trying to take care of mental health while pregnant.
Yes, and it depends which medication you’re on. SSRIs are considered safe during pregnancy. You just wanna be on as low a dose as you can or baby might go through withdrawals. I was on citalopram with my son the whole pregnancy and he’s perfectly healthy. I’m on it again for this baby because I tried to go without it but the panic attacks were too much. At the end of the day you have to weigh the pros and cons. The risk of the medication is very very low, but regular anxiety and panic attacks can cause a lot of stress to you and baby.
