Hello, my baby is dealing with the same thing and I switched to goat formula and having less spit up, and more calm and able to pass gas now but still still dealing with the constipation. Following for advice as well. She’s also allergic to cow milk protein
@Shenel thanks! I have got some aptamil pepti 1 at the pharmacy ready to pick up so think i will get it tomorrow and just trial it. I know its thin as my eldest had it so unsure if i should just book an appointment tomorrow to try and get some thickner or gaviscon as well or just try the milk on its own first... did your little one have cmpa or just reflux? And what ended up helping if anything?
You can just buy carobel to thicken the milk x
@Amy oh great thanks x
@Kirsty yes definitely CMPA, we did the milk challenge and he failed. He was a totally different baby within a few days when we switched to nutramigen. I also added gaviscon to his milk but kept it on the low dosage and never increased it by his weight, I avoided carobel tbh as it sounded like a mare to get the quantities right x
hmm, that sounds really tough, poor little guy! it could be a mix of things, but maybe keep an eye on how he reacts to the formula and chat with your doc if it keeps up, just to be safe. here's what the 'Heal App' says.... "It sounds like your baby is experiencing some discomfort, which can be quite distressing for both of you. The symptoms you describe-fussiness, arching of the back, and difficulty settling—could suggest a few things, including potential reflux or even a sensitivity to cow's milk protein (CMPA). The spitting up and hard tummy can be common signs of reflux, while the fussiness and gas may indicate some digestive discomfort. Since he is still able to settle at night and has normal poos, it might be less likely to be CMPA, but it's important to monitor his symptoms closely. For now, you could try feeding him in a more upright position and keeping him upright for about 30 minutes after feeding to help with any reflux symptoms.
This sounds very similar to my little one who is 7 weeks. I’ve decided to go dairy free from this week to see. How did you get on?? X
@Jennifer he ended up being prescribed aptamil pepti for cmpa and gaviscon for reflux, the combo seems to help quite a lot and he is more settled now. Because the formula is thinner he spits up a lot more which isnt great but he doesnt seem in pain with it, he just seems to struggle with pain at feeding on his last feed before bed but all the other feeds he is fine now x
@Kirsty that’s great it’s helping him!
The only way you’ll know is to try a DF formula unfortunately 😢 . Sounds pretty similar to my little guy. He had silent reflux, pin prick rashes and would not settle at all, cried all day when he wasn’t sleeping but he would sleep for 6 hour stretches at night, I think he was so tired from being awake screaming for most of the day x
