Anyone given birth recently? I’m due my second baby in May and seeing a lot of mixed reviews on Homerton now . I had a good experience back in 2023 but wondering if much has changed .

Im also giving birth in May. Honestly, I was pleased with Homerton until they’ve booked my cesarian. Doctors has told me that baby had to come out before on the 39 weeks and could not go any further due to my lack of protein in my placenta. They’ve booked me in 39+5. I kept calling to talk with someone and they’ve said if they have it earlier they will take me in. But when I ask about the risk of those 5 extra days, I’ve had no answer which are making me feel really worried. Perhaps, they’ve told me on the phone yesterday “stop being anxious”- tried to explain that was my first pregnancy but it seems like they didn’t care, told me to call them back when I was more “calm”.

I gave birth 3 days ago
I had a traumatic experience. Mind you I had all my other children there and my experience was good but it seems as if 2025 they have gone down hill big time.

so sorry to hear That . Was there something in specific that caused the traumatic experience?

& how did your Homerton births go if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m having a planned c section there next week, so obvs can’t change anything now, but if you have any tips (things I might not think I need to bring, facilities etc) please let me know! Much appreciated x

They’ve booked me in asked me to be there by 7:30am. Then told me there was me and 3 other people for a planned c section but one of them was 4h late. There was lots of emergency c section going on that day which was understandable, however they’ve token this couple who was 4h late in front of me. My partner had to constant ask them for an explanation because I was very weak due to the amount of time without having anything to eat, the nurses were super rude telling me was out of their control until my partner went there again complaining about the lack of communication and how my stomach was hurrying without food since the day before at 10pm. I’ve got there at 7:30am and had my baby at 16:47. The doctors who was in the room with me was lovely, specially a midwife who was there holding my hand during the anaesthesia, which erased the stressed a bit. They’ve literally discharged me next day and one of the nurses who explained things to me such as the needles I had to do next could +

Barely speak any English, I ended up hurting a nerve in my upper leg bc she didn’t say it was supposed to be in my tummy and not in my legs.

Wow I guess it really is luck of the draw- I went into labour early at 38 weeks and they reacted very quickly to do a c section as I requested. At every stage I found them to be amazing- I will say I overheard some other midwife’s talking to patients and they were very rude. So I guess it’s all luck!

So sorry you had a poor experience Julia. X

hey sorry for the late response. My experience was good! there were a few bits that were abit annoying but knowing how busy Homerton is couldn’t be avoided ! I started off with leaking waters at 38 weeks and went in straight away as I tested positive for gbs . They did several checks over the next few hours but the dilation measurements kept changing and they were saying was due to finger sizes of different midwives. We got a room after a few hours in birth centre but then had to move to delivery due to labour not progressing and they needed the room ,as soon as I was moved the sweep I had just had kicked in and my labour began ! The midwives were absolutely amazing as I was in so much pain due to baby being in wrong position and a failed epidural I was absolutely screaming down the place and definitely was not listening to alot of the advice they were giving 🤦🏽‍♀️ I had several midwives due to the length of labour and each one listened to me and validated my feelings!
