Would you dress your baby in Shein?

Not from a snobby perspective but worried about toxins in the clothes, pollution etc.

Personally not because other countries have different fire regulations, and I have heard of moms having clothing tested from SHEIN testing positive for lead

No. I dress myself in Shein. lol. And Pretty little things and Fashion Nova and That’s So Fetch, but if I’m buying hobby supplies on Shein then I’ll chuck in a dress and a pair of heels. Their heels are super comfy for dancing

I would worry about the toxins bc I’ve heard about them but haven’t really looked to see if it’s true bc I don’t care for their kid clothes anyway. I was gifted some and the quality was just not there. The clothes were tough, not stretchy and pretty ugly. Not from a snobby perspective either bc I’ve seen some really cute clothes for adults and I’d wear them. I swear anytime I compliment someone’s outfit, they’re like “it’s from SHEIN”. Lol

Most of their clothing is made out of polyester which could be potentially toxic.

Hopefully this isn't taken as snobby but I don't support fast fashion especially because it basically uses slave labor to create their low quality products. There are other places where you can buy affordable clothes with safer (for people and the environment) materials than SheIn.

No, the quality is not great and the texture of most shein items is uncomfortable. I highly recommend looking for local resell shops, I only buy new items for baby for special occasions, they grow so fast most baby items at resell shops are lightly used anyways and super affordable. I have one nearby that has 10 for $10 onesies, so almost everything she wore for the first 12 months was bought second hand

Avatar

I agree. Once Upon A Child does this and a lot of times you can find clothes with the tags still on them.

Avatar

no, because of the toxins and cheap quality

Avatar

Absolutely not. The chemicals, the slave labour, the mass production. Absolute trash the whole lot of it. There are so many better places to buy your clothes from adult or child, you don’t need hundreds of items of clothing. If money is an issue buy pre-loved.

Avatar

Every day dressing no, because I prefer cotton clothes, but for an occasion dress I would.

I don’t and wouldn’t wear SHEIN myself either because of the lead found. Sometimes my LO will put my clothes or his clothes in his mouth and the risk isn’t worth it. I’d rather thrift if I need cheap clothes for him or myself.

Avatar

No because the few kids things I have bought, the sizing was awful

Avatar

I wouldn't buy directly from them but if they were in a charity shop i would possibly get something if it was nice

Avatar

Surprisingly the baby clothes i had purchased two years ago did not test positive for lead. Not a single one. BUT the earrings I got for myself did along with hair clips, a few summer sandals, & swimsuits did!

Also, the baby clothes have been used with mine and one other baby and were returned last yr to me, still in great condition. So we will use them for our second baby and he'll be the 3rd baby to use them!

It’s not even about being snobby, it’s about ethics

Avatar

I don’t even dress myself in it lol. No offense to anybody, as they do have cute stuff, but I refuse to jump on that bandwagon.

Avatar

I’m thinking about it as I buy SHEIN clothes , but who knows what’s in any of the clothes that we buy right ?

Actually there are strict regulations on things such as AZO dyes etc. for many countries (EU for example but not yet the US/Aus). However Shein probably circumvent that due to the cheap prices and huge volumes and the fact that there’s simply not enough capacity to test every single product on import. I don’t trust them as far as I can throw them.

Ironically not that many really trade with them anymore but in the past importing to the EAEU block/Russia for example you had to obtain an EAC safety and quality certification, meaning companies had to send either a sample garment or a swatch of fabric off to a lab to be tested for harmful chemicals (at great expense to the seller) and be issued a certificate required for import. Shein wouldn’t have been exempt from this. Absolute ball ache but probably the right course of action as at least consumers know the products are safe. (I will add that Shein is currently blocked in Russia but not on a quality basis but LGBTQ+ issues 🤡).
