Dentist??

NHS sdvice is to bring baby to a dentist as soon as they have the first milk tooth but it's impossible to find a practice that accepts new NHS patients! Is private the only way to go? Is there any way to track when practices open their waiting lists?

Just keep ringing round, took me the entire pregnancy to find one literally. Don’t go off nhs website x

My dentist wasn't accepting new patients, so I just took babe in with me when I went for my check-up and just asked the receptionist if she could register her there and then and it wasn't a problem x

@Bethany I was told to do same

I registered mines before first milk tooth

I spoke to HV and they gave me a number to call to complain

My dentist took my little boy even though they are not excepting patients as I am registered

Surely they can automatically register with your NHS dentist if they have one? Both of mine have been added because we are registered

I rang my practice earlier and they said they ain't taking new patient. Will try again when I go there for a check up in couple of weeks. My dentist practice is a bit awkward tho.

There’s an NHS website but in my experience it’s not kept up to date. I haven’t managed to get an NHS dentist for my 3 year old. I have an NHS dentist but they won’t accept new referrals, even my children, so no they can’t (or won’t) necessarily register your kids.

My surgery isn’t taking new patients (as my partner is currently looking) but because i was registered they registered my boy.

My dentist is private but they will see children up to age 5 for free (unless they require treatment) so could be worth asking if other private practices do the same? It at least buys me some time to find an nhs dentist!

My LO had his 1st check up before he even started teething. He's back for a check up in August. My dentist was taking on nhs patients so I registered when I was pregnant and also registered my boy before he was born. I found emailing and calling every dentist within an hours drive on the nhs website and requesting to join waiting lists. Luckily I got mine within a week abd it's just over 1mile away so perfect

@julie if you’re registered even if they don’t take new patients my understanding is they have to take your baby.

@Danni well I asked them and they said no. I have a checkup coming up so I will take my baby with me and see what they say then

@Danni nope they do not. Mine won’t 🤷🏼‍♀️

(Don’t have to, I mean. Plenty will do they, but they don’t have to, and there are some that won’t).
