Stair gate opinions

Hello! 10 month old now super keen and able to climb the stairs 🤦‍♀️. Health visitor said to use wall mount gates but not necessarily on the stairs. we have 2 gates waiting to be installed top and bottom of the stairs even though she said to put them on rooms we would want to keep him in. However, the layout of the house means if we were to gate rooms we would need a gate on every door instead of just one at the top and bottom of the stairs and also there's a risk if he's crawling about he would get full access to the stairs by accident with so many potential gates one would bound to be left open. But I feel like gates at the top and bottom might make the stairs more dangerous so I have no idea what to do safety wise. What does everyone else do about gates/ stairs? Pic to show layout. His bedroom is at the top of the stairs.

For context I have another child but we used to live in a bungalow so this is not an issue I've had to deal with before. My gut is saying to just have a gate top and bottom of the stairs.

We just have ones on top and bottom of stairs! Just make sure the top isn’t a pressure mounted one!

We have a stair gate at the top and bottom of the stairs. I have similar stairs to yours and our bottom gate sits on top of the bottom stair. I have screwed both stair gates to the wall and to the banister. We actually put our stair gates up when our Dec 2021 baby was about 7 months old and they’ve been up ever since. They get checked often and have never really budged.

We’ve had gates at the top and bottom of the stairs since our December 21 baby started crawling too and had no issues so far.

Always use fixed stair gates on stairs, ones that screw into the wall! We have one at the top of the stairs, as our landing is basically a small square with 3 doors off it. At the bottom our stair gate actually goes stairs to front door, which then gives us the extra safety of closing off the front door too.

Yeah I agree with you, top and bottom of the stairs. Like Lauren and Lyndsay, we have had ours up since our September 2021 baby was on the move and they've been fine. I dont quite understand her suggesting putting them on the room you want to keep them in, seems unrealistic, babies like to explore and if needed you can close doors x

Thank you all very much, yes both the ones waiting are screw in. Will get on it!
