Aptamil powder formula grainy

Hi, ftm here and wondering if anyone has ever experienced this before. My boy is 5 weeks and I have been giving him the aptamil powder made the traditional way using the kettle. I got a new tub and when I made it up there was a lot of grainy particles in the teat and I could see them in the milk as well if I put some on my arm. I tried making a few up and the same happened every time. I even bought a new tub and the same is happening with that one. No idea what I am doing wrong. Has anyone else experienced this? I am just concerned I will make him ill if I keep giving it to him so have reverted to the ready made stuff for now. The anxiety is real.

Hey! Exactly how are you making the bottle? Are you letting the kettle water cook down to between 70-80 degrees before mixing it into the powder? X

I had the same problem with aptamil my LB was being sick after and the sick was still grainy so I switched to sma. I was making it using the baby brezza though so thought it was something to do with that

I found this when the water was too hot, if you boil the kettle and wait for a little bit (not too long obviously) and then try again I found this worked x

My daughters are on Neocate, and their milk is normally fine, but recently, we've had a batch that's grainy. It won't do any harm, just a little grainy x

hiya, I am waiting between 20 and 25 mins before pouring the water from the kettle. That’s what I was doing from the last tub and it wasn’t going grainy. Do you think I need to wait the full 30 mins? X

Avatar

thanks. I’ve only given him one grainy one as was really unsure about it. Haven’t had any sickness from it. Don’t want to switch if I don’t have to as I know it can take a while for babies to adjust

Are you shaking the bottle, I know some people like to swirl to avoid bubbles but then I find it doesn’t actually mix properly unless yous shake the bottle.

Avatar

yes wait the full 30 mins x

My boy is prescribed Aptmil pepti 1 and this happens sometimes too. We also use the kettle. It’s recommended to wait no longer than 20 minutes, is what the health visitor told us. But at night I put it into a flask that keeps it hot all night and use it that way x

I can see your using infacol too, I usually put a couple of drops of that in the milk (stops it getting foamy) and give it a good shake (like a cocktail!) and it should make it less grainy as it’ll dissolve better.

Avatar

do you put the infacol in right after the powder, before shaking?

Avatar

I was originally swirling but tried giving it a good shake and was still getting grainy bits

Avatar

I put it in after I’ve added both the powder and water x

Avatar

do you just put the hot water into a flask? I was thinking about doing that as sometimes we can’t wait 30 mins

Avatar

brill thanks. Will try give that a go x

My boy has been on aptamil for 10 months now, some bottles are like this, done smell a bit strange and others seem completely normal… he’s drank them all and not shown any disliking to them or had sickness. If it’s in date, not been open for more than 4 weeks and been prepared properly then I really wouldn’t worry x

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

When do things get easier?

As we entered the 9-12 month stage, my son started crawling and pulling himself up. He also became more clingy and does not play alone, still doesnt sleep through the night, and this week has been sick (so EVERYTHING amplified). I am tired and overwhelmed. Please lie and tell me things get better. 🥺

4 month bed time

What time do you put your babies to bed?
What time do you start your 'routine?'
My LO currently goes to bed around 10.30pm, and I know i need to start bringing it forward. Everytime ive tried, it takes longer for my LO to settle.
We are exclusively breastfeeding. Any advice Mamas?

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?
