Do you let your baby have dinner with you when on holiday, bare in mind the salt content in it

My little girls 7 months old and I’m gonna take pouches but do you let your lo’s have meals or nibbles from restaurants with you or is that a hard no? First time mum and first holiday so clueless on if that’s the norm? Say a small portion of fries and request no salt? Or chicken?

At that age I used to just give my son little bits off my plate or maybe just order a small side. Everything’s ok in moderation so a little bit of salt is fine.

I was strictly using food puches for my baby. Now that she is 15 months old I let her eat fries or chicken or anything that i know she can eat I will let her eat it or niblle on it. Before 1 I never let her try food at restaurants or any other place other than her baby food

Depends where you go I think but my son was 7 months old when we went abroad for the first time and he just ate what we ate. Use your own judgement on salt content/suitability and can always give a pouch as a back up x

@Nire thanks! I’ve done a separate post on this but what do you do about naps at that age? Would you mind reading my other post on it pls x

I’d take baby food, but still offer foods of my own plate also,my little one only liked purses for 2 weeks and then refused them over solid foods x

For naps we just took him for walks and he’d sleep in the pram. Evenings were a bit more difficult as we were with other people who wanted to eat later and stay out but most of the time he’d just sleep in his pram and we’d do our best to transfer him into his travel cot when we got back. I’ll have a look for your other posts x

I guess it depends where you're going and what kind of foods. At 7 months they don't eat much and you can likely just get a side of veggies, fruit, or take snacks for them. I'd avoid anything obviously salty, like don't go giving fast food etc, but veggies and meat, pasta, pizza..

Both of my kids have eaten whatever we’ve had on holiday. We usually do all inclusive. At the buffet we usually order scrambled eggs of omelette on the hot counter for them and ask for no salt plus fresh fruit and toast. Lunch and evening meals we’ve usually just ordered veg, pasta, fruit etc and again if possible ask for no salt. I always take snacks from home to have in the room like rice crackers, packets of biscuits, wafers, mini malt loafs etc and they’ve always been absolutely fine. Wherever we’ve stayed there’s always been grilled fish, salmon etc and they will often do fresh without salt if you ask

@Zarah I’ve always found mine need extra naps on holiday with the heat and later nights. Last year my youngest was 7 months when we went to St Lucia she would have a nap either just before or after lunch then again when we went in to get changed around 5ish and she would be fine then until after dinner. I would take her to dinner and then if she was dozing off I would change her nappy and strip her to her vest as it was so hot then if she fell asleep I could just transfer her to the crib

Hey, it’s down to preference really. At 6 months my baby was only having single vegetable purees, so I was giving him one or two first taste pouches, or asking the restaurant to puree potato and broccoli for example. If you’re going BLW they may have some cucumber or boiled potatoes, broccoli etc. At that age, personally I didn’t give my baby any fast foods or processed foods but that was just my preference, and I think it’s whatever you feel is right for you and your baby

Yeah

Salt is not harmful is a little qty even if it’s better to avoid it. But at 7mo old they just taste and discover so it’s not much ! I just gave a bit of our plates, tasting 1st to check. If too much salt I give him a pouch, just having one always with me in case. Sometimes you can ask the restaurant to do some things ! Or to not put salt ! Just really really avoid the added sugar If you don’t have a pouch, you can just buy a yogurt or a fruit ! Or like smooth veggies (avocados..) Don’t put too much pressure on you, do with what you have, and at 7mo if he doesn’t eat food at all for a few days it isn’t even a big deal as their nutrients source is still breastmilk/formula only

Definitely would

We’ve always eaten the same food since we started weaning at 6 months, and eating out is no different. Bits of our plates, and a side of veggies with no salt is always a hit!

We did pouches as he didn't eat much at 7 months (half a pouch). Also I only bought pouches containing food we don't eat or I was allergic to.

@Charlotte Istanbul Türkiye - yea was thinking the grilled food would be ok but to a minimal and only choosing foods to give her at nice restaurant. None of the street foods

@Louise what about time differences? It’s 3 hours ahead where we’re going so I’m just thinking of forcing her night nap to adjust and then it’ll align with the day

Yes I’d feed baby from my plate - but not things like salty fries. Mostly things like toast, baked potato, steamed veggies, fruit, plain white rice, and just a bit of the meat

Yes he has same as us if he likes what's being offered

I didn’t really let her have my food till she was a year she wouldn’t eat stuff off my plate before that if we were out I’d take pouches, yoghurts and snacky things.

My son is 9 months I do both. I give him little nibbles, just enough to feel included.

I used pouches at 11 months, it was easier and I knew she was eating enough. She only picked some fish or fruit off my plate there wasn’t really anything else she could have but that’s because she has soya allergy and cmpa. I think at 7 months it’s just way easier for everyone to use pouches and if there’s something on your plate they can taste that you know won’t have too much salt then let them have a tiny taste x

The food abroard is better quality than England for sure
