Breastfeeding and teething 😬

Hi gang, My baby is 11 weeks so still a little way to go before teeth start coming through but I’m dreading it a little. I had such a hard time with nipple pain due to poor latching because he was so small when he was born. He’s much better now and I’m experiencing virtually no pain from breastfeeding but nipples and teeth do not sound like a fun combo. Should I be worried? I’ve heard some horror stories about babies basically biting nipples near clean off. I’m scared 😱

Every bub is different. When my bub bites down its not a fully clamped bite. She did it occasionally, not often at all and it was only when a new tooth is cutting through. She learned quickly if she’s biting no milk comes out so glad it’s not a habit

Mmm, when my son started he didn't bite at first. He slowly got there but it seemed more like he was doing it to slow the flow cause it was too fast and he would choke sometimes. I usually felt the most pain if he was headed off to sleep cause he would clench down sometimes. Would just unlatch him and if he was too fussy I would let him continue but usually he would be fine and go back to sleep. I would just let him know that it hurts mommy when you bite and that seemed to help plus unlatching when he did it. Never broke skin or anything like that though.

My 17 months old has 12 teeth! He hasn’t bitten them but sometimes when teething his latch would need adjusting and it would cause a scrape on my nipple but nothing too painful and would only be temporary x
