When to size up baby bottle for newborn

I think it’s when they start taking in more in one go, we got to a point when he was drinking all from the smaller bottles and wanting more regularly so we upped it, but there might be a more definitive time? But I just went off his ques xx

I would suggest waiting till baby is drinking all bottles for the day then up it the next day. For example my little one is offered a 90ml bottle at every feed being 2-3hours. Once he drinks all the 90ml bottles at every feed the following day I’ll up it to the 130ml (not expecting him to drink it all straight away) x

All babies feed different amounts so it’s hard to say what age but as a rough guide, if your baby finishes the full bottle on every feed try increasing by 1oz for every feed, once your baby goes from 4oz to 5oz then you’ll go to the next size bottle because the small ones only hold 4oz. As for teats, if your baby is getting frustrated while feeding, constantly pulling away, falling asleep before finishing the bottle, having excess spillage or taking longer that 10/15mins to finish a bottle then those are usually signs to use a faster flow teat. It’s all about trying out these things and if you find they don’t work just change back to what you were doing and try again in a few weeks. My baby is 16 weeks and she has 6oz every 4hours and i’ve only just put her on size 2 teat, she feeds 5 times a day then sleeps 8hours at night, just so you have an idea. :)

If you look at the back of the formula of gives a guide of how much babies take for each each - size of bottle and how many a day. Just a guide but useful I found

Honestly if I was to have another baby I wouldnt even bother buying the smallest bottles because I feel like my boy didnt even use them that much atall, it is all just trial and error with your first baby, I realise now I wasted so much money on stuff I didnt even need or want but was worried I would need it 🤦‍♀️

@Charlotte I didn’t buy them they came free to me with the Emma’s diary so that’s why I have them :) luckily I didn’t spend a penny x
