I would not worry! Good before one is more learning and milk remains the main food with all necessary nutrients. With throwing up, i would ask a gp. It can happen when food triggers it in the back of the mouth, for example when it is too big or gets stuck.
Most babies gag at the beginning. it doesn't matter what it is as they have to get used to texture, etc. I wouldn't stop. Let him play with food, give him the spoon of puree, etc. If he gags spist, that is OK, but give it again and see his reaction.
