Hi mums ! My baby is 5 months soon- I am a first time mum - I am still breast feeding and I just got my period tonight … does this mean breastfeeding is over for me ? Will it stop now that I got my period 🥺

I’ve had my period back for a year now and I’m still breastfeeding my son. Haven’t noticed a change in my milk. Obviously everyone is different but I’d say a lot of people can continue to breastfeed with their periods back. I think I’ve heard that sometimes your supply might drop while you bleed then come back up when you stop. I haven’t noticed as I don’t pump and my son will just be on for ages when going to sleep

I got my period 8 weeks after both my babies and was breastfeeding! Didn’t affect my supply at all in the long run. Don’t stress too much. My supply dipped for a while but just stay consistent 🫶🏼 sending love to you and your breastfeeding journey xx

I got my period back at 11 weeks for both babies. Continued exclusively bf my first until 20 months (could have gone longer but weaned as was pregnant & wanted a break) & my 2nd is 7.5 months & still exclusively breastfeeding ☺️ & have had 6 post partum periods already.

No, I got mine 6 weeks pp and breastfed until she was 2 years old

@Annaliese thank you so so much for this response, I have been very upset tonight about it. I spoke with the breastfeeding association counsellor about it tonight also and have hope in the fact that I will still be able to breastfeed my boy that’s it’s definetly possible, but will also need to keep in mind that it’s possible for it to stop. What you’ve explained is 100% correct. Thank you so much, this means so much to me, I am so grateful to you for reaching out 💐💐💐💐💐

@Vicki thank you so much Vicki your response means the world to me, it gives me hope, I really thought the worst about it earlier (silly me) thank you for understanding and guidance 🌹

@Natasha this is such a relief to be reading, thank you very much for this information , I am taking into account as well that I could be different and the milk will stop/dry up, but I have such a more positive outlook with it now, that it’s not over n out and no more breastfeeding bubba anymore 🙏🏼

@Mirka sounds fabulous ! Thank you for this response it gives me such hope about it all 💐

My first baby, I got my period back at 12 weeks postpartum. Bub got a little fussy around periods time, but we continued on and breastfed for 901 days, weaning because I was pregnant with No 2. I have my second now and got my periods back at 16 weeks postpartum and yes Bub gets a little fussy around that time but I keep feeding. She is nearly 6 months old. There is absolutely no need to stop feeding cos you have your periods. Your body willl keep producing milk, it might just taste a little different to Bub

@Sam thank you so much for this info, it is really helpful and keeps me positive 💐 iv woken up this morning to plenty of milk supply and am super happy and relieved it’s there as I thought it was the end of my breastfeeding journey 🙌🏼🙌🏼 so grateful 🌹

I'm 11 months PP. Got my period at 3 months PP. Still breastfeeding. Your journey isn't over.

@Kirsten 💐 thank you so much for this reassurance and positivity, I needed it very much, appreciate it a lot

I will note, some babies get fussy as it's said our milk can start tasting salty. Many take this as a supply dip. When really, if baby isn't feeding as normal and isn't taking the usual amount, our bodies adjust and make less. So yeah, there can be a dip, but it's because baby isn't taking as much if the milk tastes salty. They'll cluster feed when all is said and done to bring it back up to where they need it. Supply doesn't just stop.

@Kirsten thank you for this info I really appreciate it, I’m glad I am still getting good supply I’m keeping an eye on it and his attitude towards feeding too thanks a million for the support 💐💐💐💐
