Sick baby

I’m still breastfeeding my year old baby but right now she’s sick with a cold. She also has a wet cough and has been very clingy to me. A little lethargic and lost her appetite. She hasn’t been eating well but will taste little nibble of some food. However she’s eating my breastmilk just fine. It’s been almost a week and have seen 2 different doctors bc I was concerned that she wasn’t eating a lot and hasn’t gotten better. currently trying home remedies and have an appointment on Tuesday to see if she lost weight. any advice or suggestions??? She’s still wanting to play but most of the time she wants to be held. Just worried as a first time mom with no experience with children. Been researching stuff online but need help with my baby girl!!

My son had some illness or other for all of March (bad teething, a cold, d&v and a virus with bacterial tonsillitis, awful month and terrible luck!), had antibiotics for a week. He would eat about 3 mouthfuls each mealtime but was breastfeeding quite a lot more and was still drinking water. He lost about 80g in March but that's to be expected if they go that long without proper solids. I don't have any suggestions but just to say that a week or two of illness and a bit of weight loss isn't the end of the world. Just lots of cuddles and boob and she'll get better eventually.

We went thru something similar when LO was a year old. It was so scary for me, and we made it thru! It lasted about 10days. You are doing SO good giving breast milk! I would suggest coconut water for hydration and Pedialyte! Those extra electrolytes will help! It sounds like u are doing everything right. You got this mama, these kids are so resilient and u will come on the other side with a confidence and a learning for both of you mentally and physically.

@Hazel I’m relieved to hear that then what I’ve heard from doctors. Seems like we’re going down the same road but concerned from the mix recommendations doctors have to say. Hearing it from a momma sounds more reassuring though

@Elena omg I didnt even think of coco water!!! that’s so genius, I feel like the lack of sleep I’ve had I can’t even think straight. Thank you for the help!

This is totally normal. She probably will have lost a little bit of weight and she will gain it right back when she’s better. We can tolerate not eating solids when we’re sick as long as we stay hydrated. Sounds like she’s getting better slowly - hope she’s back to her normal self soon!
