Breast pain

I’m 5 days post partum and formula feeding my baby. My breasts are rock hard and so so sore with milk constantly leeking out. How long does it normally take for the pain to reduce?

I had the same problem, started yesterday. It’s the transition from colostrum to milk and not breastfeeding/pumping/hand expressing (obviously if you don’t want to do any of that, don’t) but you have to massage the milk ducts as they’re blocked and that’s why your boobs are rock hard. it can take a while, but as long as you’re not expressing, your body will start to stop producing milk. Sorry, if this isn’t worded coherently😅

Thank you! I have loads of little hard lumps I’m guessing they’re milk ducts. I thought just to leave them but I will try massaging.

yeah, that was literally me. it will continue to fill up but yeah, just got to massage them out and your boobs will continue to leak until they get empty. you got this mamas!🥰

I had this 5 days pp also I put on breast pads for the leakage and a cold towel over them to reduce the pain as they were so sore mine only lasted for a day but I continued with the breast pads and they seem fine now x

Can’t answer who long but midwife’s recommended to put a cold savoy cabbage leaf in your bra and this will help relieve pain and reduce your milk supply. Leave it in until it stops feeling relief then put another in when next needed.

Are you breast feeding or not is the question. If so it could be mastitis so be super careful, if not I imagine it’ll go down in next few days if you’re not using them x
