Weaning off the breast! Help!

My little one is now 20 months old and I am 20 weeks pregnant. I’d like to have some sort of break between breastfeeding him before his sister arrives. However it’s proving challenging to wean him off. He eats well but likes his milk when I get in from work, before bed and if we are together through the day he will feed as and when he wants. Now family members have suggested using things like mustard, aloe Vera on my breasts to essentially “put him off” but I feel it’s cruel and the times I’ve tried mustard for example his cries make me feel guilty. Can anyone give me some tips on how to do this gently - if that’s possible? I would love him to just no longer be interested but he loves it.

Sadly no help as my girl was the same and now we’re tandem feeding 😫 I hate it some days I find it draining my boy is 9 weeks old and feeds constantly and my girl is 20 months and also trying to feed I try distract her x

A gentle way would be to cut it down by the length of the feed each time. So maybe start with the day time feeds, and reduce it by a minute each time. Work on the night time feed last. You could also try switching it for cow's milk. Having said that, I weaned my daughter at 15 months because I was pregnant and the only thing that worked for us was to go cold turkey (obviously hand expressing to avoid mastitis) because my supply had dropped so much with pregnancy. You'll have to do what works best for you and your little one.x

I just weened 19 days ago. I was lucky in that I was away for two nights so she couldn’t have any. Then when I came back and she asked for it, I said no and distracted her. She still asks randomly now. Tonight she asked and I just said all gone and she repeated it and left it

@Leanne I think I need to be firmer. As soon as I come in from work he’ll cry for it. During the day I can distract but we feed for naps and bedtime. 🫣🫣

I started offering bottles/cups when he asked for it instead. We did vanilla coconut milk in it and now he has that twice a day but we are weaning off that by putting less and less in the cup
