One week old fighting sleep

Hi guys, my baby turnt one week old today and he had a long 3 hour sleep throughout the day today and that is it which was over 7 hours ago now, he’s had 20 minutes then 30 minutes since then but he seems to be fighting it. He’s had a nappy change, had his normal feed and isn’t looking for food and when given a bottle doesn’t accept it. Hes happy and content he just won’t sleep. Does any one know why or what could be happening?

Sometimes they just have a lot of stimulation or a lot going on in their developing brain. It happens on and off as they grow. My 21 month old has. Nights like this still

Girl he’s barely out the womb he doesn’t know what’s going on! I think it took us at least 4 weeks to get any sort of routine! In the early days our little boy wouldn’t sleep till about 1am, then it got earlier and earlier to about 9pm for a few months and then we got it to 7 which it still is now, you just have to go with the flow for now!

I think at that age they just need constant contact and reassurance. He’s so so fresh. Help him nap as much as you can. I’m not sure what you do for naps? But at 1 week old I’d be cuddling to sleep for him🥰🥰

Please don't worry too much, I spent too much time worrying early on about sleep rather than enjoying the moment. If your baby is happy and content I think you'll both be fine 🙂 Maybe try going out and doing something different, you never know, they might fall asleep on a walk or on the way back :)

Thank you all! I worded this wrong and meant he had only had 30 minutes sleep in 7 hours, he was awake and alert the whole time which I thought was very unusual for a newborn and was worried he was in discomfort although he was content!
