Maternity Allowance/Grant

How long have people waited for a decision on Maternity Allowance after sending the form in? Also, do I have to wait until 29weeks to send off the form for the Sure Start Maternity Grant or can I send it now at 27weeks? How long did everybody wait for their first payment? And also for the grant? Thankyou🩵

Hey, I got a text from DWP saying they’d received my application for maternity allowance and to allow 4 weeks for a decision. I rang them because it had been 5 weeks and I hadn’t heard. They were really helpful and it was HMRC that had caused the delay because I needed to pay some more national insurance to claim the full amount. Anyway it all got sorted that same day and I received my first payment a week later x

I posted mine off on march 20th and 24weeks got a text on 25th saying they got my application. Just before April 17th my partner got a text to say money will be in account shortly by April 17th. Unfortunately they don’t send back MAT B1 form according to good and I have t gotten it back as yet. I tried calling DWP & SMG but I couldn’t get through to ask about it so I’m waiting on GP for a letter so I can apply for maternity allowance

Did I have to write a letter to My office asking for maternity allowance after submitting the mat b1 form to them or the office just automatically start paying the allowance
