Ferber method for sleep

My baby girl is 19 weeks and over the last two weeks no matter what, she will not be put down to nap or sleep. We've been trying to put her down while drowsy etc, have a bedtime routine, but now the only thing that works is breastfeeding in bed and co sleeping, and contact naps. My husband wants to try the Ferber method but I can't bear the thought of her crying without picking her up straight away. Has anyone tried it? Any more ideas?

My now 3 year old was older when we did this (around 8 months I think?) but she got to the stage where she’d wake every couple of hours and only go back to sleep with boob or a bottle. When she woke I would go in and pat her bum until she went back to sleep as she got so reliant on being picked up / fed to go back to sleep. The first night took 2 hours constantly before I managed to leave the room but she then stayed asleep the rest of the night, night 2 took 45 minutes and then night 3 she slept through. She for the first few minutes of each time wasn’t all that happy about not being picked up but equally I wasn’t leaving her to cry if that makes sense. Shush Pat method if you want to google it.

We’re still holding/feeing our baby to sleep then transferring him to next to me crib when he’s in a deep sleep. Not going to attempt any sleep training until he’s out of this sleep regression period and probably in his own room in a few months. We did try soothing him to sleep in the next to me for a few nights, which took a long time but worked eventually, but I’m definitely not ready to let him cry either! Emily Oster/Parent Data has some good info on sleep training.
