You guys, I’m getting really tired of ppl making statements and categorizing all Americans as the same, it’s just disrespectful & ignorant to claim individual ppl as an entire group as if we all have the same characteristics.

I’m also so sick of my foreign sister in law making statements like “all Americans are so lazy, that’s why I fire Americans usually and only hire foreigners because they don’t like to work” keep in mind I’m literally a stay at home mom who is American. I swear this girl is always making statements like that and it’s so fucking rude. She’s the type of person who likes to act better than everyone all of the time too and she says a lot of comments passive aggressively to me for years. But any who, to everyone trying to classify Americans as if we’re all the same, plz stop it’s not fair nor accurate. You can’t classify individual ppl as a whole group who are so different from each other. That just doesn’t make sense & it’s offensive. America is full of different mindsets, lifestyles, hobbies, habits, backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, religions etc. WE ARE NOT ALL THE SAME.

I’m guilty of this and I’m American. I think it’s too many of us that the statements apply to separate us as a whole.

@Shimaya I was literally going to say the same thing I know MANY MANY Americans who say the same statement of Americans are lazy. I definitely get where OP is coming from and can see how it could be offensive. I think also for a lot of foreigners it makes sence to lump ALL Americans together. a lot of people don’t realize most countries are the same size as a single state. It’s like people in American calling all Californians names or all of Ohio.

@Raqi why are laugh reacting to my post? I don’t understand what’s funny

@Shimaya me too 🤣🤷🏾‍♀️

It’s humorous because humans do this. I don’t think what your sister in law is saying is nice but that may be her vantage point. That’s how she has experienced Americans. Just like when people say that another race is just baby mamas, or hillbillies or cleaners…that’s what they have seen, been shown or experienced. For the most part, all of humankind makes these assumptions. I think it’s just a giggle because it’s…humans.

@ALI Yeah, I’m probably more triggered by her specifically because I’ve just dealt with constant negative passive aggressive comments from her for years my brain is about to explode. She’s just the most outright judgmental person I’ve ever met in my life.

I laugh reacted because as an American, I think it's funny 🤷🏻‍♀️ Every culture stereotypes other cultures, and the stereotypes Americans come up with often gain global notoriety because of our cultural imperialism. But when we get outside of our bubble, we find out that oh no! Other cultures think we're lazy, dirty, backwards, etc. I'm probably unbothered because I know those stereotypes aren't true. If you're so triggered by me, protect your peace sis! Feel free to block me 🖤

@Raqi I think she meant she was triggered by her negative nancy SIL

Personally I think it’s funny because more often than not the narrative that’s painted of the rest of the world by ignorant Americans is exactly your SIL’s perspective of Americans It’s just this cyclical narrative that all the “others” suck

I think its all to do with perspective. People outside the country don't necessarily have the best judgement for the people who live in it. Judging by outside perspective the UK is mainly London and we have bad food and teeth. It's not true but it's a common generalisation.

I think it's just that people like to feel superior without putting in any extra effort so putting someone else down makes them feel good about themselves

Americans think all people in the uk have bad teeth 🤷‍♀️ some do, some don’t

Yeah I'm american and it's like foreign people are freaking out more about what's going on here then we are lol. It's wild seeing non Americans here talking about my country, basing off what they read online/see on the news? And I love me my home protection and hamburgers and private health insurance but we aren't lazy.

As someone who lives in the UK, I would say that a lot of this is being influenced by what we see on social media platforms - but also in a personal experience of encountering and interacting with an American. If most of the time that individual didn’t have a positive experience from it, of course they are going to conclude that it’s “All Americans”. But it’s a world wide problem, that’s why racism and discrimination exist. It’s just the way our brain works, it’s a bias way of thinking based on what we have had experience before. It’ll be difficult to change since you need to truly make a very strong positive impact on them to change their views. Some people also refuse to acknowledge that as well, since it’s not what they “know”. There are just all kinds of people out there, it definitely takes one bad fish to stink up the whole town.

@Naomi I think of bad food, tea, guards, and Sherlock Holmes 💀😭

I’m American and when I think of America, first word that comes to mind is scammer 😂

Anyone that generalizes any ethnicity/country already proves that their opinion doesn't matter. Clearly uneducated and ignorant.

@Kovashya scammer- my brain goes to India with those phone scams and customer service agents pretending they can't understand what you're saying

@Tiffany lol I am so glad I’m not the only one who thought that!! My mind usually goes to Cult with America.
