I transitioned my son around 12 months. He was definitely ready for 1 nap. It took him maybe a week to fully adjust? But he’s so much happier on 1 nap!

He’s okay with 1 nap so far it’s been 4days but the bedtime is rough!! He won’t sleep but i know he’s sleepy because he’s so cranky!!

What time is his nap/bedtime? And what time is his normal wake up?

@Brittany so far he’s napping 11am-2pm (this is a range, not always exactly 3hrs but within that timeframe) Then bedtime is a mess… he would sleep around 7pm sometimes 8pm, the other night he slept at 930pm!!! :( Normally, his bed time is between 7:30 - 8:30pm when he had 2 naps

Maybe try waking him after 2 hours. Push a 12-2 or an 11:30-1:30 and bedtime pressure will be heavier with longer nights

Mine dropped to one nap around 11-12 months but I agree with the above person who said to adjust their one nap timing a bit. I would try to keep him up a bit longer in the morning so the nap starts around 12 instead of 11. Then he'll nap later and it won't be as long a time in between nap and bedtime. I read somewhere that supposedly it's easier for babies to stay awake longer between nap and bedtime than between wake up and bedtime but it's been the opposite for mine 😅 she's much happier staying awake longer in the morning than in the afternoon

Also you could still offer a second nap if that works for you. In our transition phase mine definitely seemed like she was tired and ready for a nap so we laid in bed with the lights off in the late afternoon as if it were naptime and she would nurse and almost fall asleep but then suddenly bounced back up ready to go 🤷‍♀️ like just a little rest time was what she needed instead of actually sleeping. Then that phased out too and she's not tired at all until bedtime

Highly recommend not letting him nap longer than 2 hours. My little will refuse to sleep at night if she naps any longer than 2 hours.

Agreed! I had mine going in a resting stroller walk in the evening. No nap, but a forced relax time. Mine adjusted in about 2 weeks and the was teething so after about 3 it was a perfect 12-2 nap 730-6:30 overnight. Teething times she’s up at 6 😭

Yeah I’d prob wake him up. I usually wake my son up around 2-2.5 hours. And by the time bed time he’s usually exhausted.

Omg yes. Today is day 2 of cutting down to 1 nap & so far I think that’s what we needed to do. She would do 2 naps anywhere from 1 hr to 1 1/2 hours with the last one ending at 3:30/4pm. I kept reading that they needed a 4 hour wake window so I thought ending the nap at that time was fine but she would fight to stay up until midnight or even 2am. Yesterday I cut the second nap out completely & she went to bed at 9:30. Today she went to sleep around 8:15.
