Newborn wake window

Hi All, I have 10 days old baby girl and she is never active or awake during the day. She can go through 5 hours between the feed and usually just feeds and sleeps back. I am worried if this is normal to have just 5-10 mins of wake window for her feed?

I had the opposite; he would be awake for between 3-5 hours and only sleep for between 10-40 minutes at a time. He’d feed for about half an hour when breastfeeding. He was and still is a low sleep needs baby. Perhaps your daughter is a high sleep needs baby, but I also suggest you speak to a midwife or CAFHS nurse just to rule other things out x

If baby is gaining weight and has enough wet / solid nappies then in my experience this amount of sleepiness is normal. If you are worried though see the local child health care nurse, the phone number should be in your blue book :) if you need to weigh baby before you can get in with the nurse then some pharmacies and baby buntings have scales

@Courtney my boy too, crazy what little sleep he could run on from a very young age and then yep the 10 minute power naps 🤣🫣

For the first 4 weeks, my LB would wake up, feed and then go back to sleep for 3-4 hours on repeat! Then following this, his wake windows were a little longer. As mentioned above, as long as bubs is gaining weight and has plenty of wet nappies then it is okay. Enjoy it while it lasts, soon you’ll be wishing they slept a little longer so you had time to do things/time to yourself 🙈 x

My second was like this for a few months. He now barely naps at all lol so enjoy it whilst you can

@Liv solidarity, sister! Haha I genuinely couldn’t believe it. I thought “just my luck” 🫠😅 he’s now 19 months and having 1.5 hour day naps and stirs overnight, but at least has 9 hours 😮‍💨 literally nothing exhausts him either haha
