I can’t get any medicine because I breastfeeding…

How unfair! I’m having recurring cold sore and besides cover it and apply cream ( doesn’t help at all) I can’t do anything else. I was so sure gp could prescribe me some tablets, but no! I need to deal with it until I’m done BF. I also had a stomach bug, and when I get them I just start to throw up until my bile show up, it’s disgusting and painful and even there I couldn’t get anything because I BF. I got sciatic pain and I couldn’t get an injections because I BF. How unfair is that?

Very unfair! I think many doctors are not updated at all and make pregnant women and women who breastfeed suffer unnecessarily. Here in Spain we check this site https://www.e-lactancia.org/

@Estefania I did check this site, English version and said I could get it. For that I book an appointment with gp, but when I went there his source suggested not advised so he didn’t prescribe me anything. I do believe there are not updated too.

I would maybe try lysine tablets from Solagar on Amazon. These are the only tablets that have actually stopped me getting cold sores. If I skip the tablets for two or three days I immediately get a cold sore. I’ve been on them over 10 years now, still take them while breastfeeding.

@Skye which dose do you suggest?

That’s the exact one I take! One tablet every day and it’s been a god send for me I swear by it!

Lysine and Zinc tablets will help. Go see a pelvic floor physio for the sciatica...you don't need medication for that you need exercises to treat the root cause.

I just check this Lysine and is not advice to take them if you are breastfeeding… why is that?

Most if not all vitamins and minerals will have that as a warning on the side and will tell you to consult a doctor first. I spoke to my doctor and midwife when pregnant about lysine and neither said they had an issue with me taking it.

Thank you @Skye ill have a word with my doctor or pharmacist tomorrow

Definitely worth checking but they typically have that warning on things because it’s unethical to test with pregnant or breastfeeding mothers!

Yes that’s true

As much as it sucks unfortunately there’s a lot of unknown of what passes through to the baby through breastmilk. One kid broke my rib a month ago and I was told to just take paracetamol, ibuprofen and rest. It’s a lot easier said than done when you’re managing/caring for/lifting 3 kids
