High blood pressure

Just had a midwife appointment and had high blood pressure, waited a little and then had another reading, it was a lot lower but still high. Have to go back next week for another reading. We were talking about labour and birth plan whilst the student midwife took the first high reading. Has anyone had this? I’m worried now! My blood pressure readings have been fine before!

I’m always told by my midwife not to chat while blood pressure is being taken as it can raise it a bit, so we always just sit in silence or she chats while I just listen 😂

It was also a hot day today so I wouldn’t read too much into it just yet. I have gestational hypertension that came out of nowhere week 34 and was immediately put on beta blockers so they can’t be too worried if they have let you go. Best thing you can do is keep calm and not work yourself up about it (which is easier said than done of course)

I've had high BP since 16 weeks at all my midwife/hospital appts and got put on tablets for it but normally I'm told not to talk and to do deep breaths whilst they take the reading so I wouldn't worry! I'm sure I've read that BP can be slightly higher towards the end of pregnancy anyway as there's increased blood load and pressure! If the second one was lower I wouldn't worry xx

Thank you girls, this has put my mind at ease so much!! I was talking at the time!!

Every time I have my blood pressure done, it’s always high. They say I have ‘white coat syndrome’ basically my heart races when I see any doctor/nurse. Might be something similar that gets you going. I just hate hospitals or doctors so always prepare myself for high blood pressure results

At worse they will ask you to go hospital for a bp profile where they will do you bp every 15 mins for an hour x

You’re supposed to be sat not talking resting whilst doing your bp, could be due to that or if you’ve literally just walked in the door

I had a high blood pressure reading 3 times, as well as protein in urine. Went to triage for different reasons a week later and all was fine, and the same with my last appointment x
