My son is having a hard time at school

I want to start this by stating that as moms, we are advocates for our children. My son is 7 and in first grade. He’s a sensitive boy and he broke his leg a few months ago. Since staying home from school for his injury, his return to school was rough. Even when the cast was removed he would go to the nurse often and when coming home would say that he was just having a bad day. Yesterday someone at school sniffed him and said he was smelly 😞 I don’t think he smells. He asked to call me but after speaking with his teacher previously about redirecting him with moments like these, she did not let him call me. I get it. This is my first kiddo, is he being bullied, you think? Should I be more concerned?

kids are brutal, we know that from our personal experiences with school especially at that age. try to talk to the school about it. if it gets worse with certain children try to set up a meeting with their parents

That’s why I feel so worried! I should arrange a phone call with his teacher though

@Zahra yes ! it’s a good start just 2 be sure

First grade is brutal. Have you brought up your concerns with his teacher or school counselor? They should be able to come up with a plan with you for how to make him more comfortable during the transition back to school. I would reach out to them for support if you can!

First graders are savage to each other though. They have very little filter and they struggle with making friends I have noticed. Also the emotions run really high at that age.
