I was in a similar situation. After many telephone calls one of the staff advised me to say that I am not able to return to work as I cannot pay the nursery fees and to ask for advanced FSF. They did not give it to me at the end but I guess it depends on the person that is dealing with your query? I returned to the same work as you
Have you considered a childminder? They’re more likely to expect payment at the end of weeks/months than upfront?
I had to ask family to help for the first month and I used what had left in my savings for the rest. Now I'm being paid it goes straight into the government 20% extra bank account (which you probably aren't entitled to as you have UC)
i would be in the exact same situation but luckily my boy starts next week and throughout most of april to early may i’m technically on leave, so i have been paid a sort of wage. i would genuinely try to explain the situation to the nursery and see what can be done, even if it means paying in instalments or something. do you have any family who could help out financially?
@Flo I’m thinking of asking them this today. Thanks for your advice.
@Monika so do you recon me calling again today and asking for an advance FSF and see what they say
@Jodie I’m going to try and do that , thank You
@Charlotte I’ve already made a deposit for the nursery I hv to short of a time window now from when I hv to start work and I don’t hv much time . But thank you for the advice x
No advice but right there with you, we've got his first 2 months worth of nursery Bill before I've been paid, don't even get universal credit. Can you talk to the nursery and ask if they can wait a little while longer if you are due pay soon or have been fairly understanding
