3 month old baby with teething symptoms that have been lasting for weeks.

Hi all, new mom here so any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated. When my daughter turned 3 months, she started to drool a lot, put her hands in her mouth and became really fussy and would also start licking her gums. She would cry and brace her fists as if she was in pain and would only calm down after we started using teething toys and encouraging to bite on her paci. We figured she started teething early but it’s been a few weeks and it’s not letting up. It’s not an all day thing but it is a daily occurrence. First time it happened, she wasn’t interested in drinking her full 4 ounces but now she feeds fine and sleeps through the night but I’m still worried when she has her little episodes of seeming in pain. Does teething usually last this long? Thank you all in advance for any help.

Hiya, my son is 9 months and is still showing teething symptoms, he began around 4 months. They can last a really long time, nothing to worry about. ❤️

Whilst it could absolutely be that your baby is teething, most baby’s teeth don’t come in until much later. What’s more likely is that your baby is mouthing/exploring. They display a lot of the same signs (drooling, everything in the mouth etc) but it’s your little one starting to learn about the world around her :) Mine did the same thing and I did a lot of research into it as was a bit worried about her teeth coming in so soon! 😂

My baby boy is 11 weeks and started showing teething signs a couple of weeks ago, some days can seem worse than others .. I asked the doctor about it when I went for his jabs and she said it can be just normal baby stuff or they could be starting to teeth early but either way its fine as long as there is no temperature also 👍

My husband and my SIL were adamant that our son was teething at 3 months old. He didn’t get his first teeth until around 11 months. Now, 4 months later (15 months old) he has 8 teeth.

@Sanna wow 9 months… you and your son are troopers! Thank you, I feel reassured 💞

@Harriet it could definitely be that and I’m glad she’s figuring out that but sometimes she seems in pain and is fussy 😭

@Charlotte good to know! Mine didn’t have a temperature either so thank you for reminding me! Good luck to you💞

@Trish glad early teething seems to be more common than I thought. Did your son have a lot of discomfort?

what you’re describing is super common and sounds like early teething behavior! Some babies can show teething signs for weeks or even months before a tooth actually pops through. The drooling, hand chewing, fussiness, and gum sensitivity all line up. It’s a good sign she’s still feeding well and sleeping through the night — that means she’s managing it okay overall. Keep offering teething toys and pacis (you can even chill them), and know that these little “episodes” often come and go before any visible teeth show up. You’re doing great, mama! 🫶🏼💗
