Sleep consultants

Has anyone used a sleep consultant and are they worth the money? Part of me feels they are just making money from desperate sleep deprived parents but I’m starting to feel I need some help as little one is resisting bedtime

Some people swear by them, do you have a local health visitor team? In my area the health visitors will come work with you to help with sleep, behaviour, weaning, toileting etc.

@Lauren I do have a health visitor, I didn’t realise you could go to them about sleep

My sister used one for both her boys and worked! I decided I was too poor as she paid literal hundreds, and I sleep trained. But she obviously thought was worth the money as went back for her second born

We used the blissful baby expert from Instagram, and it did work however I’d recommend using someone else as her people skills were minimal and left me feeling like a crap mum with sleep anxiety so make sure you try get a feel for the person before handing over any cash! X

I followed the blissful baby routine roughly when mine was around 5 months old and she’s mainly slept well since. I’ve found now if she’s slept too much in the day time then she can’t sleep through the night but other than that she’s fine. Bedtime is normally based on when she had her last nap. Maybe try the blissful baby routines before spending the money? X

🙋🏽‍♀️ we did at 9 months - my husband reckons we probably could have sleep trained without one, but I found 2 things valuable that I wouldn’t have been able to do by myself 1) getting LOs routine right - he needed longer wake windows than the average baby, and is lower sleep needs 2) the support we (I!) got when LO was protesting - our sleep trainer was available from morning wake until bedtime was done (within reason) on WhatsApp for 2 weeks and she helped me to hold strong when I wanted to go in and comfort LO - I would have caved/given in by myself. I had to be mentally ready to sleep train though, and I spoke to 3 sleep trainers and ended up going with one of the lesser well known ones based on rapport/gut feel! We went from 5+ night wakes on average to basically sleeping through. She also predicted my LO’s drop to one nap would coincide with starting nursery and she was completely right

I have! The advice I got from our health visitor was cry it out sleep training, which wasn’t for me. I worked with second star to the right (look her up on instagram!) and she was pretty good, but expensive. Another account I’ve seen on Instagram that looks very good is doze sleep coaching. Both use gentle methods, and they both have loads of info on their pages so you could try a few things out first before you committed to spending any money!!

@Lauren that's awful! They should absolutely not be recommending the cry it out method, completely out dated and traumatic for the child 😱 this is my local HV page with links and number for the national sleep helpline. https://www.justonenorfolk.nhs.uk/child-development-additional-needs/behaviour-sleep/babys-sleep/

@Neha which sleep consultant did you use?

I was desperate when my girl turned 1 and was waking every 15 mins after I’d lay her down after making sure she was in deep sleep. I was soo sleep deprived and desperate to sleep train her so i did the Ferber method and honestly it was the best thing ever. She starting sleeping through the night within a week

My friend @Rhiannon used one, I’ll see if she can comment the details xx
