We've been doing the buy 1 for now and 2 for later method since December. So we have about 4 or 5 mths of food that we can lean on if times get really hard. We have open bottles of some meds and then brand new bottles. Same with toddler medicine. Same with pet foods. We have their open bag and then 2 extra bags. We focused on canned veggies, canned fruit, canned tomatoes (for pasta), pasta, flour, sugar, yeast, chocolate chips, canned meats like tuna and sardines. Extra cases of water. Bagged beans. Spices like cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, turmeric, brown sugar, sazon... rice. We did grab some stuff like Mac n cheese and some extra frozen food to keep in our deep freezer but not a lot incase for whatever reason the power goes out. Two extra packs of paper towels and 2 extra packs of toilet paper. Extra cleaning supplies and vinegar. Extra detergent, dial hand soap, tooth paste, tooth brush heads, things like that. So right now we don't need anything thankfully.
Why are we stocking up?
@Vanessa because there are shortages predicted
Uhh I'm confused
I’ve been working on a list for a few days. My plan is every pay day we’ll go and buy a few things from each category. That way we aren’t buying up everything and we aren’t over spending. Besides shelf stable food, I’m concerned with medication, even OTC. With the way RFK is talking I’m going to be buying back up on some meds. Along with my fluoride toothpaste. He was just talking about how people are dumb because of fluoride.
I'm in the US and we aren't stocking or panicking about a damn thing
@C So smart!!! Thank you for this list! I wish we would have started earlier. I’ve stocked up on some pantry items but feeling under prepared
@Vanessa Tariffs are expected to cause supply issues - especially in regards to food
@Rhiannon About the expected shortages?
@Raven🇵🇸 That’s a good idea! I started that yesterday with just a few pantry staples. And I also got the kids back up medicine. The RFK stuff is bananas
@Tiffany Are you not worried about supply issues? Do you grow your own food?
I'm not one to panic like people did with COVID for example. I also don't have the pantry space anyway. Things might get more expensive but I don't think it'll come down to not having access to food and dry products or anything crazy.
Ohh ok. I don’t follow the news
Almost 90% of the food U.S. consumers buy is produced domestically, so if you're going to stock up on stuff, make sure you're actually purchasing things that are imported because that's what will (more likely) be missing from shelves
Nothing 😅
