Has anyone taken maternity allowance as a self employed worker?

I’m expecting my second baby, I was employed with my first pregnancy so this is my first pregnancy being self employed. The gov website says it’s between £27 and £187 per week. I want to know how much I’m likely to get. My income varies and has been anything from £700 to £1800 per month. I’ve done my tax return for last year and paid the optional national insurance contribution. Does anyone know how they work it out?

I applied for mine a few months ago, I think it’s £187 or 90% of your weekly income, whichever is less based on a test period of something like 13 weeks within the 60 weeks before your due date, so you put forward your 13 highest paying payslips and they work it out based on that, I was away travelling when I got pregnant and between lots of different jobs and I still got the full amount, hope this helps a bit xx

@Alex thank you, if I get to select the weeks I send them I think I can get the full amount xx

Good luck! 🤞

You’ll probably get the full amount 187
