Cows milk

Hi, my baby is a little over a year and we’ve been introducing her to cows milk. She has no issues taking the bottle or anything but it’s been causing constipation. Has anyone else had this issue ? What did you do?

How many oz are you giving a day? How much water a day also?

She gets 1 or 2 max 6 oz a day usually just one. She’s giving me trouble with the whole water thing which I know is part of the problem. Any recs to get her to drink more water is also appreciated… she’s very stubborn!

The rest I’m giving her formula which obviously is mixed with mostly water

The milk and formula combo with little water might be causing it. Do you a milk cup and a water cup?

So my little girl likes water but has helped is going through different brand cups to find the one she likes. Once I did that , she drank more. Also offering different ways, through a water bottle , a real straw , open cup , anything to get some sips. You could try flavoring with fruit. I also only offer her water to drink some meals so she’ll get milk for breakfast and lunch but only water for dinner

I’ve tried in three different cups and even a bottle and she doesn’t want it I’m at a loss of what to do I’m thinking of starting over with the milk just so she gets back to pooping and then maybe getting her used to water before we go to milk!? Idk!

Same! I also have this issue too with my twins. In addition to more water, my pediatrician recommended feeding them oatmeal, pears and cantaloupe and avoiding yogurt (which can cause more constipation). The puréed pears is the only thing that they’ll really do and it seems to help. She also said that for some babies it takes until closer to 18 months for their bodies to be used to the whole milk. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Sara how much milk are you giving your twins??

It's normal for them to get constipated while switching to regular milk. You try can adding more fiber to their diet while their bodies adjust or upping how much water they're getting.

@Samantha we’ve been doing 5 bottles per day with 50/50 milk and formula. Probably about 25 oz total. When they seem to struggle, we shift bottles more to formula too

A2 milk may be easier for her to digest. It just comes from cows that carry a different enzyme in their milk (or lack thereof? I can't remember lol) that makes it easier to digest

Switching to cows milk can cause some constipation but just make sure you’re not giving it to her as a stand alone meal. It is meant to be a drink with the meal. I would also try plenty of water and if that doesn’t work I would consult a pediatrician

I always give my son his milk bottle after a regular meal and i also include a high fiber food at every meal - whole wheat bread, pears, peaches, peas, etc. Fiber helps with constipation

I give my daughter prunes purée or prune juice 🥤. The only dairy 🥛 that I give her is cheese 🧀.

I only give my daughter almond and coconut 🥥 milk 🥛

I’ve heard most fruits starting with the letter p have good fiber. I’ve heard of people flavoring water to make “juice” with purées.
