Sleeping longer stretches and clingy during day

I don’t want to jinx it but my baby has been doing so much better with his night sleeping. He has been giving 2 almost 3 hour stretches where he doesn’t wake at all. However he has now become a clinger during the day where he won’t be put down for nothing 😅 I swear newborn life is trading off one win for another. I’m happy to get some sleep but now unless baby wearing this little dude I can’t get anything done. He also wants to eat every hour still and I can’t seem to get him to push to a longer stretch though my pediatrician recommended to due to him spitting up. She wants us to have him wait until 2 unless he really is unruly but then he will fuss until he cries and wants to eat. Any ideas how to get him to eat less frequently during the day? I think because he eats so much during the day he also doesn’t eat as much at night. Which is nice cause I need the sleep but when he does wake up in the night he jumps straight to crying cause he’s hungry. Should I start waking him up at least once to eat throughout the night? Any advice is much appreciated. For reference as well my baby is eating 12-17 times a day sometimes 20 which our pediatrician said was a bit abnormal and a lot now that he’s 6 weeks

Have you considered doing a weighted feed? I'd be really curious to see if he's getting full meals all those times he's eating throughout the day or just snacks. It sounds like he may be eating just enough to knock the edge off his hunger if he's getting hungry again so soon. Or maybe comfort nursing

My little one was falling asleep at the breast and was eating super often, since he wasn't getting a full meal. I started waking him up after he fell asleep at the breast and he almost always ate for double the amount of time (or more), which resulted in longer stretches between feedings during the day (2.5-3 hours), and he's sleeping two 4 hr stretches at night now! It kind of feels mean waking him up, but I know that it's good for him in these situations, since it results in a full belly and longer stretches of uninterrupted sleep, which is good for his brain development

Following because going thru the same 😢😢😢😢

I highly recommend meeting with a lactation consultant/getting a weighted feed like Clarissa said. I know where I live there’s so many resources for free lactation services, they’re great for way more than just latching issues. I’m experiencing pretty much the same situation as you. I feel like it’s because my baby falls asleep during feedings and doesn’t get a full tummy so she’s only sleeping like 45 minutes at a time during the day. But last night I was able to get a 5-6 hour stretch of sleep which was so great

@Zoe I have an appt with lactation made for Tuesday now! Thank you all for your advice! Hoping they will be able to help me out since my little guy also seems to be pulling away from the breast too

@Clarissa my baby seems to do the same thing!

Dealing with the same!! When I wake my baby up and try continue his feeding he simply refuses and full on cries till I stop. How long is everyone’s baby generally at the breast?
