Is this cluster feeding?!

So once my little girl got up to birth weight, the midwife told me that if she’s sleeping longer stretches at night, not to wake her up and to just let her sleep. So I’ve been doing that (and appreciating the extra sleep at night) but now I face a good three hours in the morning where she just feeds constantly! She normally does two 4/5 hour stretches at night and will wake up for just a 10/15 minute feed! So I’m wondering, should I go back to setting an alarm and waking her every three hours at night, or should I just treat this as cluster feeding and let her continue? Trouble is I can’t really do anything before like 11:30am most days as that’s when she stops and finally settles! And I’m worried that she is genuinely starving hungry (I don’t think she can be as she’s pretty content the rest of the day, and I don’t think she’d sleep at night if she was, I just worry!) Or am I maybe not producing enough and should top her up with formula? I’m really enjoying breastfeeding and don’t want to give it up, but she’s 4 weeks now and I don’t know how long this is going to last because it’s been about 10/14 days of it! If anyone has faced or is facing anything similar it would be good to know!! x

My baby is the same age (4 weeks today) and is doing the exact same thing. I feel like every morning she is attached to me wanting to feed. I have been worrying that she’s not full, but she has plenty of wet and dirty nappies and is settled throughout the day so I think must be fine and getting enough. xx

@Laura that makes me feel better, glad I’m not the only one going through this!! Xx

@Lauren it’s so hard to know what’s normal and what’s not - especially with your first! I am googling everything 😂 x

Yeah I’d say that’s cluster feeding, my son is 4 weeks tomorrow and is attached to me for a couple of hours every morning and then every evening so I always say, in the morning he’s putting his order in for the evening and then every evening putting his order in for the morning 😊

@Laura I swear every google search for the last 4 weeks has had the words “newborn” and “normal” in it 😂 it’s so hard to know! x

@lindsey okay good! Yeah, she does the same between like 7-10pm ish, the rest of the day just seems to be normal feeds! That’s a good way to look at it, putting in their orders 😂 x

Could it be maybe that she simply wants comfort? If she only stays for 10/15 min might not be that is feeling hungry and only needs to feel you. I’m fairly new to motherhood and also trying to figure out what my baby is asking but I’ve noticed sometimes specially during the day he just wants 10 min breast to relax for 1 hour, and he doesn’t actually take much milk, he is just sucking very slowly and falls asleep after a few minutes.

Mine is 4 weeks tomorrow and exactly the same 😊 my first did this too and I was so worried then but now know it’s all ok as long as she’s content after feeds and putting on weight!! Xx
