Daytime naps- help!

How can I get my baby down to nap in his next to me during the day? My LB (4.5m old) has always been quite good at sleeping in his next to me during the night. He’s going through a sleep regression at the moment but he eventually will sleep for a few hours in his next to me at night. During the day is another story, he has always contact napped or napped in the pram after a long walk. Recently I’ve been putting him back in bed for his first morning sleep, but he wakes up from his night time sleep, has a long feed then goes back into his bed in his sleep bag and white noise machine still on. Has anyone got any tips on how to get him to nap in his next to me during the day? Today I put him down after he had been asleep on me for 30 mins and he lasted 10 minutes then was wide awake. I put him back on me and he fell back to sleep. I don’t mind the contact naps but would like to get stuff done while he naps. Any advice appreciated! 🙏🏼 TIA

Consistency worked for us. I needed the contact naps to end for my own sanity (nobody needs to come after me for that) .. so around 3.5 months we decided baby was going to start napping on his own. I actually left the house and had my partner do it the first time because I knew if baby started fussing I’d pick him up… long story short it worked, we seldom contact nap now (4 months later).. we follow the exact same thing we do at nighttime:pjs, sleep sack, soother, white noise, black out curtains, bed. If he is having a hard time settling we sit on the floor beside the crib and hold his hand until he settles then we leave. we never put him in his crib fully asleep — usually he’s actually wide awake. We also try to not pick him up when he’s just fussing because we’ve found putting him back in his crib after that to be really hard. Through the regressions we’ve noticed he takes a bit longer but we have yet to change up our system and he typically is back on track within a few days.

After the 4 month regression baby sleep cycles change and are only about 40 min long! When they are that little they often haven’t learned how to connect their sleep cycles on their own yet and will mostly wake up at the 40 min mark if sleeping on their own. It can be a challenge to figure out what works best for your baby! But I’m sure you’ll get there. 💕

@Amanda thanks so much for sharing! I don’t blame you, the contact naps are great but I understand wanting to end them. That’s good to know you do the same thing as night time I will try that! I’ve also been putting him in his bed whilst he’s asleep, I haven’t tried while he’s been awake so I will try that too xx

@Danae Handley yes his naps do usually last about 30/40 mins. I will see how he is after the regression ends 🤞🏼 thank you! Xxx
