We chose to not use a dummy but at 6 weeks we ended up getting one... However by 6 months we then got rid of it

My daughter never had a dummy.

Both my children never had dummies. But I do BF so not sure how that would have been different if I bottle fed. My son is 5 months and sucks his thumb now. All you can do is give it a go 👍🏻

I’d absolutely suggest as a mum who gave her baby a dummy.. not to do it as getting rid of it was so hard and she ended up having it until she was almost 3 at sleep time still 🫣😂

My first 2 had a dummy, but my 2nd was the reason we didn't use dummies for our other 3. He was a nightmare for losing it multiple times a night, and then we couldn't leave the room until he went back to sleep or he would just cry. Not using a dummy is fine, we had no problems. It was only hubby who wanted to give in and give one a few times during the teething period 😄

All my three never had a dummy. All breastfed babies, I don't know if it makes a difference.

@Sadie if you dont mind me asking..do you fear stopping the thumb sucking when he is older may be harder than stopping a dummy or are you not too worried about that?

@Emilie appreciate the honesty. my step son had one until he was 3 and would want it for merely existing which is the part i don’t want to have to deal with 😅

@Gemma gosh you must have had strong legs running back and forth 🥲 thats the part i would have zero patience for despite how much i love my little boy 😅 i can appreciate your husbands sentiment, anything for a good nights sleep.

I was always against giving a dummy however I think different children enjoy the sucking motion more and ended up giving my girl a dummy at 6 weeks ish. Don't put pressure on yourself. See how your baby is and go with your instincts which will be right. There are many pros and cons and all babies are different

We didn’t give until we felt like we could REALLY do with something to help soothe… and now 9 months and isn’t overly attached! He uses it but quite often sleeps without it / spits it out in the night and isn’t bothered!! So as it wasn’t offered straight away he doesn’t rely on it!

My son has never had a dummy, he just chews them anyway lol. I’m breastfeeding so he comfort feeds a fair bit but that’s fine with me. Boobs are the original dummies 😂

16 month old never had a dummy and my 11 day old hasn’t had one, absolutely trying to avoid it. I’ve got friends who say they have to put the dummy back in at night time and honesty, that’s enough to put me off giving one lol. Both were bottled fed only, no BF. X

@Rebecca I think I share this perspective, I want to run with the see how it goes because i would much rather get some sleep than torture myself 🙃

@Traynie did you ever try to soothe with the boob despite not breastfeeding?

Honestly just go with the flow and whatever you think is right will be. I was worried what others thought etc. they may have their own different comfort but for my baby it's her dummy and it's a life saver. I only limit it to sleep time / nap times so she has something to relate to sleep. She's also very good at putting it in herself on a night time if she loses it. You will make the right choice for you and your baby 🥰

Both my girls never had a dummy, I don’t know why but I actually hate them 😂

We all day what we will and won't do before having a baby, then when baby comes it can be a whole different story! As trust me, if you have a very unsettled baby and dummy gives you that rest that you need, you'll end up doing it 😵‍💫

So dummies reduce the risk of SIDs, we tried giving my baby a dummy (tried many times) and he outright refused!! He would just suck his thumb which he has stopped doing now (10 months old) he uses me as his dummy anyway 😂

No I’ve learnt with my first not to worry about stuff like that. They all stop eventually and if it gives him comfort to sleep to don’t mind. He won’t be doing it when he’s 15 I’m sure 🤣

I sucked my thumb well into my teens and had braces 3 times. I am determined that my baby doesn’t suck his, was against a dummy but at about 5 ish weeks gave him one, he’s ebf but used it as comfort when he was little and now just to sleep and usually spits it out once he’s in a deep sleep.

my son is 6 months old, nearly 7 months. and he hasn’t used a dummy since he was newborn x

I had them in case it was something we wanted/needed to try, but my bottle fed LG has never had one.

I didn’t want to give mine a dummy but I ended up giving in as it really settled him. Go with the flow I’d say. Some babies love it, some don’t take. Don’t be too strict on yourself if it does help with settling.

Never had a dummy for either of my kids - I’m not even gonna lie I don’t even know what they are used for if I’m honest 😂 so because we never used them I don’t really how how to answer the question on did we succeed if that makes sense because I don’t know the difference in using one or not xx

Our boy has never had a dummy and as far as I can see it makes it far less stressful then having to wean them off it

Sometimes they don't give you a choice...we offered our little boy a dummy but he simply was not interested.

No, never attempted breast feeding, it’s just not something I want to participate in x

My daughter didn't do and still hates dummies she's 1 now. Glad she never liked them tbh my mum said me and all my siblings were the same never had them refused them.
