Overstimulated when grocery shopping

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I get so overstimulated when I try grocery shopping with my daughter that I can’t focus on my list and what I’m trying to get and I start sweating and stressing out, but my boyfriend thinks I’m crazy. Is this abnormal or do a lot of other moms feel this too?

Omgosh I hate going by myself with my child when it’s crowded I will get stressed out. 😰

@Rudy seriously! I’d rather do like anything else 😭

@Emma FR it’s just too much going on.

That was my husband yesterday! We're from a small town so not used to a busy busy bigger town. It was like chaos all the aisles were crowded and just alot for him lol

You should look into curbside

My daughter wants to touch everything in the shop and it takes 10x as long to get it done! We get our groceries delivered, I couldn’t do a fully weekly shop with her 😂

@Lauren yes!! My daughter is the same way, she’s constantly stopping to look at stuff or she will just not pay attention and constantly run into things or people but refuses to ride in the cart 😭🤣

@janel oh yeah I always do curbside when I can

I cant shop with my partner or children. I go alone or I die.

@Kee EXACTLY

I have this for sure, but I’m also AuDHD so for me it’s a sensory overload when my son is there too or if it’s really busy!

@Julie yes! I have ADHD and non diagnosed autism but I’m like 99% sure I also have autism lol

No I hate grocery shopping with my kid. I hate shopping in general with my kid. It’s overstimulating and exhausting.

Am so glad I ain’t the only one! 🫣😥

I go grocery shopping with my 5 year old and 4 month old boys. I don’t mind it. My husband though? He be struggling 🤣

Same I get really overstimulated quickly shopping with kids it's pure stress i try do it online most of the time lol

i just do drive up

I get this way but I'm autistic

My husband gets that way too

I get this way if I have to go to a new store. Like even same store different location. But my grocery store I know where everything is and what aisle and shelf our usuals are and what times are the least busy so it’s less anxiety inducing and actually kind of fun

I don’t get overwhelmed with the shopping, but with them running in different directions and grabbing stuff. The only time I take them shopping is if it’s an outing that we’re doing as a fun family thing and we don’t have a big list. Otherwise I get the groceries delivered.

@Lexi ah yeah I’m still getting used to where things are at the Walmart I go to and I only have the time to go right after work when it’s the busiest 🙃

The other day I went at the grocery store to buy 2 things detergent and kitchen rolls. Guess what I didn’t buy? My mind just can’t focus anymore like before

@Emma yeah this is nightmare fuel 😅 Can you order pick up??

@Lexi haha yeah I do pickup 90% of the time but my boyfriend was basically not understanding why I avoid going in person so much

I have 3 under 3 and we do pickup often😂 I can’t w their taking and touching everything all at once, plus they literally call people over and people be weird touching their hair or feet like no thank u. I strategically shop or try to make a super organized list so I can stay on track if we have to go out for shopping😭

Oh also snacks, toys anything to distract them lol

Grocery pickup all the way these days

This is why I order my shop online when kids are asleep lol 😂

Not during normal grocery shopping, but I went to Bucces the other day and this happened to me so bad 🫠

Hubby does the grocery shopping here. And we get Everyplate delivered for meal ingredients- everything else he gets. I hate grocery shopping I hate clothes shopping too I’d rather “add to cart” what I need and get it sent home lol

100%! I forget half of what I need! I wait till they’re at nursery and can do a shop as soon as the store opens and my mind is clear for the first time that week 😂 then do a top up shop on my husbands day off. Kid free in the way to go if you get the opportunity!

Sometimes I feel that way, other times I'm okay. I'm autistic though, so it really depends on how things are going in my life and how stressed I am. I've been getting grocery delivery lately and that's been so helpful! You could also try taking a small variety of toys and snacks to keep your little one occupied too, but I highly recommend the grocery delivery. It helps you to see how much you're spending and not be tempted to get a ton of extras. Also, your boyfriend shouldn't be calling you crazy. My husband does that to me sometimes and I find it to be extremely disrespectful and inconsiderate of someone's emotions.

This is why I shop online and have it delivered 😭

This happens to me all day every day. I am beginning to question if I’m autistic and not just ADHD. I get so worked up I have to cover my ears and close my eyes and breathe

@Melanie that’s exactly what I’m thinking too! I know I have ADHD but I highly suspect that I could have autism as well

@Emma I never in a million years would’ve thought I had autism but motherhood has made me feel pretty crazy so maybe I do 😂 I didn’t even get diagnosed with ADHD until I was 17. And I’ve gotten very little evaluation after that so I suppose it’s possible

My daughter isn’t even bad. I literally just can’t cope sometimes with any kind of noises she makes

@Melanie I’m in the same exact boat! I never thought so either but now I’m questioning it haha and I was diagnosed with adhd at 21 so I totally understand

I'm the calmest driver and getting cut off doesn't even bother me but I get "road rage" in busy grocery stores. Once like 3 people walk in front of me etc I am like JDJWNFIR

I don’t remember the last time I truly grocery shopped lol I’ve been doing pick up/delivery since 30 weeks pregnant. I will leave the store if he starts crying🙃 I hate the way people look at me.
