Solids for BLW

Hey mamas! My 7 month old has been loving purées for over a month now, but I want to start baby led weaning and let him feed himself something that isn’t a puree…but I don’t know what to start with!! I see moms on instagram whipping up these plates of legitimate meals with things like toast and pancakes and I’m over here terrified of anything remotely solid. What were some of the first solids you let your baby feed themself? TIA! 💛

I tried banana first, then tomato wedges! I highly recommend checking out SolidStarts.com - they have a database of practically every food and it's free and it shows you how to serve it safely to ages 6m/9m/12m+!

@Veronica it’s asking me to subscribe?

@Jovana yes, but it's free - you sign up, and they might send you emails (can unsub from those), but then the database is all free

Yes Solid Start is great! I also like “Happybellydietician” on IG!

My baby loves a big chunk of steamed bell pepper. I know that sounds crazy but it's his favorite food so far lol

solid starts also has an app, I just use the free version, and you can basically enter in any food and it’ll show you how to prepare/serve it to baby and any choking hazards

I’m doing baby-led weaning my son was born the 22nd of September so almost a October baby. It’s normal for them to gag, it’s helping their body learn not to choke later in life. I have 2 older children who are 6 and 3 who don’t ever choke but if they are gagging like if they take too big a bite they can clear out themselves. The journey is sometimes scary but worth it.
