Cot help! Sleep training!
Hi everyone I need help.
My baby is 5 months old and we recently transitioned her to cot. The first few nights were great, we put her down at 7, dream feed at 11 then she would either sleep through to 7 or just have one wake up around 3.30 for a bottle then back down to 7/7.30.
The last 3 nights however she’s woke an hour and half after being put down and then every 2 hours after crying. I want to start sleep training her properly and was going to use the Ferber approach as this is what we’ve applied in the day time for naps and works well for us as my biggest concern is that she cannot self settle.
However I’m not sure when during the night wakings would I give her a bottle (as I know some nights she has woke once and had a bottle). Do I go cold turkey and apply sleep training after I’ve given her her last bottle at 11 or give one in the night some time?
Thank you
Asked heal baby care app and sharing in case it helps: "It sounds like you're navigating a challenging transition, and it's great that you're considering sleep training to help your baby learn to self-settle. With the Ferber method, it’s generally recommended to establish a consistent bedtime routine and then gradually increase the intervals before responding to your baby's cries. For night wakings, you might want to start by determining if she truly needs a feed or if she’s waking for comfort. If she wakes within a few hours of her last feed, you could try waiting a bit before going in to see if she settles on her own. If she continues to wake after a few nights of sleep training, you can reassess whether she needs a bottle or if she can learn to self-soothe. Have you noticed any patterns in her waking that might indicate whether she’s hungry or just needing comfort?"
