Everyone seems to be going through this at the moment! It must be developmental. We’ve had a self settler since she was 5 months but not anymore she screams like she’s being murdered if you try and leave the room without her being asleep. She won’t even lie next to me either and is way too heavy to hold for long so it’s feed to sleep, put her in and hope for the best. Except that wakes her up again a lot of the time. These last 2 weeks we’ve had false starts, split nights, not going to sleep until 9.30 & 10.30, wakes at 4am! Horrendous
I feel better knowing everyone is going through as this sounds exactly like my little girl! Its the only time I ever hear her say mum haha
@Sophie oh my goodness we are the exact same! It’s such hard work!
I went through something like this around 13 months, I think. There was a period where she just wanted to be awake for hours and didnt really need anything, and I'd spend hours trying to put her down. What I ended up doing was going in when she cried, check her diaper and all the essentials, etc, give her a drink of water, but don't pick her up, give her a hug, rub her back, soothe her a bit, reassure her repeatedly that we are right next door, but leave after a couple of minutes. She would cry, but it usually lasted less than 5 or 10 minutes. Before that I had generally never let her cry for any reason but after I started doing this we all got much better sleep, and she was a happier toddler during the day because of it. She has also had virtually no night wakings since then and it only took about 3 nights before she was sleeping through again.
My LOs sleep has definitely changed. She's never been a good sleeper though so I wouldn't say it's worse but getting her to sleep is a lot more difficult - she used to have her bottle and then just cuddle and fall asleep, but the last few weeks I've had to go back to standing and rocking her, if I sit down she wakes up! It's like she's newborn again except much MUCH heavier 😩
