CMPA symptoms

Hey, has anyone with a confirmed CMPA experienced blood in poo as the ONLY symptom? This is the only symptom my baby has and I’m just not convinced it is CMPA! He doesn’t even have any discomfort like wind or constipation

My baby has CMPA and her only symptom was blood in her stools, I thought it was something else but doctors confirmed the allergy

@Camila thanks for answering, have you swapped milk and the blood has gone?

We are currently cutting soy for this exact reason and will challenge in a couple of weeks! Am already off milk because his older sister didn’t react well and we needed and easy 1-2 transition but I will challenge this once we know about soy, although let’s face it if soy is an issue milk most likely will be too. And yes his only symptom to cut soy was blood in poo which GP said (and I queried a few times to be sure) that most likely it would be an intolerance/allergy. Flip side, my first never had blood in poo she was all colic/silent reflux etc. But her cousin also only had blood in poo and was confirmed. They’re both back on it up to milk/cheese/yog/pure butter at age 2/3 though!

We had a lot of symptoms but the NICE guidelines for CMPA diagnosis specifically state not to exclude it due to there only being one symptom. It’s totally possible to just have one symptom. Blood in the poo is caused by repeated irritation to the digestive tract so if it’s not CMPA something else is irritating the lining of the gut to cause this (if the bleeding is regular, if it’s just a one off and can be something like a tear from straining).

It was the only symptom we noticed. After cutting dairy and soy her eczema cleared up and she never spit up or vomited after feeds anymore, I was told eczema and spitting up was normal for babies 🙄

Thanks everyone, first allergy milk feed done… hopefully the blood clears up and nothing else adverse crops up x

Yes my little girl only had blood in her stools as the only symptom. I wasn’t convinced at first either as she didn’t have any other symptoms. We had her on Nutramigen for 1 week and the blood stopped. She was then on that for a few weeks. We tried her again with normal aptamil and the blood returned with her only being on it for 2 days. So back to hypoallergenic milk for now. Dietician said to retry when she’s 5 months (she’s currently 11 weeks). She said it could just be that the gut is still developing and not a milk allergy but will only see once we try her again at 5 months.

@Emma thanks Emma! That’s really positive that it stopped so quickly and hopefully it’s not a long term thing for her x

@kristina Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but be cautious of soy too as it can cause the same reaction x

@kristina yeah finger crossed! Hopefully your little one settles too!

Similar for us- blood in stool the only real symptom but also frequent pooing and often green in colour. Otherwise a v healthy baby. I breastfeed and cut out dairy/soy/egg. It took a while.to take affect as digestive system needed a while to heal. However I also then cut out wheat as something still not quite right- no blood just v frequent bowel motions. I've felt pretty unsupported through this whole.process by GP/HV tbh and now starting to wean onto solids I feel quite concerned about introducing any allergens 🥴

@Verity thanks for sharing. Frequency is an interesting one, mine is going 5-10 times a day which I do think is a lot! I’m combi feeding, hoping the formula sorts him out so I don’t have to look at other allergens (I don’t eat eggs/dairy). I’m sorry you’ve had rubbish support, seems like we have to figure most of it out for ourselves…
