Grunting in sleep

Does anyone's baby make similar noises in their sleep? It's impossible to get any sleep next to this

Yep 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I make sure I hold him upright for half an hour after feeding as I feel like part of it is trapped wind, but he still does it every time haha. Always happens to be through the night and never through the day when he sleeps typically!

Yes mines the same, no matter how long I hold her upright after a feed it's the same. Burping doesn't seem to help, infacol does a bit but it still happens every night so even between feeds I cannot sleep

Yeah it’s so hard isn’t it when it’s all you constantly hear! Especially in the beginning I was constantly checking him when he was first making the noises haha. Me and my partner have been taking it in shifts so it’s not been too bad but he’s back at work next week 🥴

Yes same, I forgot how loud they are! Holding upright helps a bit but I think it’s something they grow out of at some point. I try to pause before picking him up as often he is still asleep.

My little girl does exactly the same! Only ever at night time when she goes back down (even after keeping her upright)

@Catherine yes she's definitely asleep but seems to be really straining too. I'm wondering if she was constipated last night because we had a couple nappies without that much in and then just now it was sooo dirty. It's so tempting to leave her in her cot and sleep elsewhere as otherwise doing the next day on no sleep feels so impossible but I know we're not supposed to do that

Yep! It's a thing. My little snorty mcsnortface was so loud! She's 5 weeks now and it has reduced. Still happens but not as loud or for as long

Sounds like a little lamb 🤭😂

@Kailey such a weird noise!!

@Boglarka thank you that's reassuring. Sometimes i worry she sounds in pain

@Ashley ahh hopefully not long now then. She's 8 weeks but 2 weeks corrected

My 3 and a half week old is the EXACT SAME! I cannot for the life of me sleep next to him. I am running on fumes at this point. I have to go in the spare room and leave him with hubby for a couple of hours just to get some rest. I cannot wait till he grows out of it 🤞😭

My 4 week old does it too, he sounds like a mix between a baby warthog and a goat. I was really worried at first as he sounded watery and gurgling constantly to the point I couldn't sleep as I was checking he could breathe. Now I'm a lot more relaxed and sleeping again as it's just what he does. A midwife said it sounds like gas and he is difficult to burp (mostly farts) but gets a lot of trapped wind x

This Instagram post explains it well and helped me with my first. https://www.instagram.com/p/CSWFuuFgB2e/?igsh=MWtsMHRsc3hvYndsdQ==

Exactly the same 2 week old!! I have identical videos on my phone to show the HV! Some of the noises sound so uncomfortable and made me so worried but I've been told its normal! Keeps waking me up though and I'm constantly checking on him to make sure he's okay!

I’m so glad I’ve seen this, it sounds just like my little girl in the night. She’ll make those sounds for maybe 30 seconds, then go quiet for a couple of minutes and then start again….. all night 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I hold her upright after feeding and she doesn’t really grunt if she’s asleep when being held. Just when she’s on her back at night. Hoping she will grow out of it soon!

@Gemma yes that's exactly the same for us! She doesn't really do it when held but starts after being put down.

Does your LO go bright red and seem quite uncomfortable as well? I’m wondering if it’s trapped wind - I always burp her during & after feeding but she will only do a couple of small burps usually!

@Gemma it depends, some nights she does that and I think you're right. We burp her after every feed and the infacol helps her to pass it well. When it's trapped wind she seems to strain a lot with the grunting and be more awake. Other times it seems she's still asleep and grunting but not really in any distress as far as I can tell
