Am I overthinking this?

Ok, our little ones are around the same age. Am I overthinking this? Honestly, we don’t get out much. My mom watches our 17 month old and they don’t go anywhere. Whenever we do see another child of course I’m always friendly, friendly to the mom and if their little one can talk, I talk too their little one too of course. Ok so - Our 17 month old is really friendly- she loves to hug other kids. I think it’s the cutest. I always say aww, so sweet thank you baby. If it lasts longer than an uncomfortable second I break it apart. What do you think??? I have more to this story..

Yes? They're babies.

Depends on the child/parents if a random child did that to my son he would have a meltdown within seconds scream and run away and not mean to but would push them away strongly. I would prefer to be asked first and hope the mum would explain that not everyone likes hugs. But it definitely depends on who you come across.

That is the cutest thing ever and my daughter loves to hug kids too and older people. (We also don’t get out much because I work from home and kids are with us all day) We need more hugs in this world. 🤍

My son loves other kids. Back in January this little girl a couple months older came up to him, my son gave her a hug that lasted maybe 2 seconds, but she was also trying to hug my son. The parents took the cart sanitizing wipes and wiped down their daughter immediately and went to their car to change her clothes..

I always break them up when they are strangers because idk how the other parent is going to react

My LO is 17 months, too… as cute as it is, I definitely wouldn’t feel totally comfortable if it was an immediate thing… if they’ve been playing together/near each other for awhile (ie - 30 min at the library or park) then it’d be a little less startling. My little guy blows kisses, but I definitely tell him to “say hi” (which means a wave at this stage) before touching anyone.
