Baby eating

My little one’s nursery asked if she gets finger food at home as she’s refusing food in nursery that is more of a liquid consistency. She doesn’t use a spoon at home as she uses her hands. Should an 11 month old be confident when using a spoon? Are finger foods wrong for this age? Feeling like a bad mam!!!

Do they mean they are trying to feed purees when you've done blw? My 11 month old can use a spoon, in that she'll pick up a loaded spoon or fork and put it in her mouth, but she can't scoop with it. Also the only "liquid" food she eats is yogurt... Sounds like maybe nursery are trying to clarify how she eats at home so they can do the same?

They said anything that’s covered in a sauce she won’t touch (although she will eat this at home) She can put a spoon in her mouth if it is loaded without lumps ie yoghurt but will not feed herself if it has lumps in. She will wait for someone to do it for her

My 11 month old absolutely has no idea how to feed himself with a spoon. that’s normal. Yes encourage it, help them with the spoon etc but they shouldn’t be able to completely feed themselves at this age. As Charlotte said above, the actual concept of scooping the spoon and feeding themselves is tricky!

As above if the spoon is preloaded he can use it but he wouldn't be able to purposely scoop. I've seen him use a scooping motion recently but it's not successful
