@Amber yeah ive said to him that im gonna see if the HV still do the weaning workshop as it will teach him the difference between choking and gagging as i feel this would benefit him Im so glad im not alone with the amount of food as well x
my little girl is exactly the same! she could polish off a whole big pouch if i let her! i’m also scared of choking but im trying to be better and just take that leap as it will be really good for her! xx
@Charmaine there might even be videos online that can help with distinguishing between the two! I'm pretty sure St John's Ambulance offer courses too that teach how to respond to choking at each age group, I did one years ago in person and it was so helpful!
My little girl eats absolutely loads! She can eat up to 4 ice cubes of pureed veg at least twice a day, sometimes alongside porridge for breakfast too. It seems a crazy amount to me as my son was on just one cube per day at this age, but it's lessening her reflux and keeping her happy at least! Choking is absolutely terrifying but other than doing some first aid courses, you have to just be brave! Gagging is also really scary but is a good skill for them to develop. We encourage coughing or gagging by doing it in front of her when she starts to do it. It is hard to keep a happy/neutral face doing so as it's terrifying, but it helps keep them calm and hopefully they can copy to learn the skill. We haven't done much BLW yet, other than a few melty sticks, but previously, we started with very soft and large pieces of veg. Solid Starts is a great app for knowing how to prepare the food :)
@Ellie have you found her struggling to poop at all? That's my major concern with letting him eat as much as he wants, he had two weeks of awful diarrhea a few weeks ago because of milk he was on I really don't want him now getting constipated 😭
Aww that’s brilliant, ours hasn’t taken to the purées at all yet and wish he would eat loads!
@Amber so far, not really. She doesn't go as often now, it varies between every day/every other day but she doesn't struggle to poo when she does.
That's good to hear, my boy hasn't pooped for two days now but doesn't seen uncomfortable or even trying to go so hopefully will be fine ☺️
Babies choking is actually super super rare, if he's worried stopping your baby from eating solid food is obviously not the answer. The answer is for him to educate himself and take a CPR class that teaches how to handle choking. It's super scary when they gag but that is actually their body protecting them from choking and we shouldn't intervene unless they are actually choking, which like I said is so rare. I have three kids and only one of them has ever choked once and that was my fault for leaving too big a chunk of food in her reach 😭 but I knew what to do so it was fine. As for the amount, I'm glad I'm not alone! I started off giving a teaspoon for tastes but he would scream for kore so I've started letting him lead a bit more. Last night he had his butternut squash puree then sat watching me eat my broccoli like 👁👄👁 so I dunno but you're not alone with a little grub monster 🤣
