KIT days in UK

Hi all, I’ve requested KIT days and had the requests refused or employers telling me they will get back to me about them and don’t. Other staff have had similar requests approved last year when on maternity leave. I’m just so confused. Anyone else had this from their workplace? Ps I know they are not mandatory and an agreement between employer and employee but why approve them for some women but not others?

I would put it in writing to your manager, ie, email and ask for a response within 48 hours etc. If they do not respond then escalate it to their manager or HR

It might simply be a money thing and they don't want to pay you!

@Kimberley it’s been HR and my line manager that I’ve been communicating with. They keep batting my requests back and forth between them! I just don’t know what to do anymore 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Rachel I don’t know what it is! But it’s weird! It’s a large football club so money isn’t an issue.

Maybe they just don't feel they are necessary?

Your entitled to 10 kit days and your work should honour that. I'm sure it will be in your maternity work policy too!

@Nina not an entitlement. Both parties have to want them and come to agreement

@Robyn it’s hard to go into detail without outing my employer! How can it be ok for other ladies to have KIT days but not me? I’ve a much more senior role than the others and I’ve a feeling there is something else at play here.

Oh, im not agreeing with your employer. Sorry if it came across that way. It's just that I had a similar issue in my first mat leave where I thought everyone did them and was surprised. I think they could say it's role-dependant.

Put that to them. Say you have contacted multiple times now and explain why you feel it would be beneficial to you. And say you're aware these have been honoured for others x

@Ellie thank you, I’ve done this but they have answered why. I’ve done a little more research and found out others just provided a list of KIT days they wanted to do and no questions were asked!!

@Robyn they previously agreed the type of KIT days I could have - similar to what I do in my normal everyday role: but now coming up with excuses that I cannot do them.

@Nina the policy mentions KIT days but doesn’t contain a lot of detail.

Thanks to the ladies that commented. So I’ve found out why…yep they are trying to get rid of me. So I’m now having to go down the legal route. It’s what I feared was happening.
